As one of the cornerstones of British Rock, Rainbow, led by the never-predictable but ever-astonishing guitarist, Ritchie
Blackmore, became synonymous with some of the most well regarded and popular charting Rock songs of the seventies and
eighties. From the mystic and quasi-religious Stargazer and Man On A Silver Mountain to the solid gold anthems of All
Night Long, Long Live Rock And Roll and Since You Been Gone, each year in the decade of Rainbow was marked by some
of the best songs and performances captured both on record and in-concert.
Passing through the band were some of the best the genre had to offer. Vocalists Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet,
bass player and producer Roger Glover and drummer Cozy Powell, each brought their individual talent to the table to record
some of Rocks best loved hard rock on those timeless albums and singles.
Ritchies modus operandi for the band seemed to be based on the mantra of change for the better and in his constant
pursuit for the next best thing, both the fans and even the band were never quite sure how long they were to stay in
Rainbow or what plans were ever afoot. This led to a revolving door of members over the years which naturally contributed
to insecurity and thus Rainbows instability. Blackmore himself eventually seemed to lose direction and would re-join his
previous band-mates in the Deep Purple reunion of 1984.

The first of its kind, this career box set covers the entire Polydor career of Rainbow, featuring rare and unheard tracks as well
as fan favourites as well as the band in concert at Monsters of Rock in 1980, compiled by Blackmore expert Andy Francis it
presents the story of the band though words, pictures and music. The extensive booklet features many rare photos (by Ross
Halfin) as well as memorabilia, picture covers and the story of the band.

Revered Long Island rock band Taking Back Sunday has announced plans to release Happiness Is: The Complete
Recordings on February 24th via Hopeless Records. The upcoming release will feature the bands original 2014 record
Happiness Is, along with rare and unreleased tracks, all spread out on 8 7-inch vinyl records with a collectible, signed
art card.
Happiness Is: The Complete Recordings will include all three studio b-sides and three additional acoustic renditions
of album tracks, such as Like You Do, from the record that portray those particular songs in a different light.
There was something real sentimental and warm feeling about the acoustic demo version of Like You Do, says vocalist
Adam Lazzara. Ed (Reyes) and I were staying in the saddest hotel in all of Long Island while the band was writing what would
later become most of Happiness Is. This place was as close to one of those 1970s New York City hotels as I had seen in the
movies and on the news growing up as you could get, the only exception being that it was on Long Island. Motel style, with
ladies of the night, yelling at all hours, the works. It was the worst. I was missing home something awful, it was the worst it had
been. Thats where Like You Do happened. In that smoky room, at that seedy hotel. I played it back on my voice recorder
and it took me someplace else. I think we came pretty close to that feeling with this recording. At first we even talked about
just leaving it as an acoustic song. Now we have both.

Amongst the many challenges we faced with our impossible standards of creating a record was the artwork, says vocalist Jesse Barnett.
Having come
up with the title DISOBEDIENT, we felt it was necessary to have artwork as bold a statement as the title of the record itself. Im confident we
did exactly
that. With the tremendous help from our incredibly talented friend Donny Phillips, we came up with what I think is not just the cover of our
5th studio
record but something that reflects the band and the theme of our record. Its beautiful and we are very proud of it.
DISOBEDIENT was produced by John Feldmann (The Used, We Came As Romans, Black Veil Brides) and features 11 fervent hardcore
tracks as well as
guest appearances from H2O frontman Toby Morse (on RMA (Revolutionary Mental Attitude)), Rotting Out vocalist Walter Delgado (on
Nothing You Can
Do to Me) and Terror vocalist Scott Vogel (on I Choose No One).

Twin Rivers debut full length has feverishly built upon the swaying foundation of their earlier release, 2012s Rough Gold EP. Cramming in tremeloed
guitar movements, and upping the pace by about 80bpm, Should the Light Go Out sees the Vancouver act take (at least) one step forward and a half
step to the side. Drummer Dustin Bromley has twisted the raucous knob up about seven clicks (and harkened back to a day when punk rhythms were
what moved ones feet), while his counterpart, front person Courtney Bromley, has developed her loud squeal into a controlled monsoon, without going
too Joplin on everything. This radically overhauled sound is on full display on the group's debut full-length, Should the Light Go Out. It was recorded in
the dog days of summer 2013, with sessions taking place at Kelowna, BC's Bottega Studio with producer Darcy Hancock of Ladyhawk, and in Vancouver
at the Hive Creative Labs with Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, the New Pornographers, Black Mountain). The new LP hints at garage rock and jangle pop at
times, but even after only one listen, its evident that the album doesnt dip into the cliches of either genre, even once. Truly, this new release stands to
gain new fans without alienating the bands previous followers.

Elvis Perkins returns this winter with a new album called I Aubade on his own label, MIR Records. Largely self-recorded at
home and around the country, Perkins describes I Aubade as on the whole an autonomous project, marking a departure
from his previous full-band endeavors. Theres a lot of wordplay involved in the album title, as Perkins explained in the
album announcement (http://www.stereogum.com/1719572/elvis-perkins-hogus-pogus-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/) , but
heres a quick primer: Aubades are morning love songs, the complement to nighttime serenades; explains Wiki, In the
strictest sense of the term, an aubade is a song from a door or window to a sleeping woman. At its core, lead single Hogus
Pogus is just Perkins and his guitar, but theres so much glimmering noise and percussive ruckus around the fringes that it
feels like a dream. In other words, it sounds like waking up to love.
This album includes guest appearances from Nick Kinsey and Wyndham Boylan-Garnett of Dearland, drummer Otto Hauser
and multi-instrumentalist Frank Fairfield, singer Cornelia Livingston, and long time collaborator Becky Stark of Lavender
Diamond.

Often dubbed a supergroup, each member of Future Brown is a seasoned artist across genres. Fatima Al Qadiri, a Kuwaiti
musician and visual artist, last year debuted her LP Asiatisch to critical acclaim via the infamous Hyperdub. LA-based Daniel
Pineda and Asma Maroof have been producing and DJing as Nguzunguzu for the Fade To Mind crew and worked with rappers
Le1f, M.I.A and R&B singer Kelela. J-Cush, runs Lit City Trax from NYC, a label providing an outlet for urban music from every
corner of the globe including the
late Chicago footwork legend DJ Rashad.
Presenting vocal collaborators with strains of sonic ideas they would never encounter otherwise, Future Brown manage to catalyze
a cosmopolitan, experimental approach to contemporary urban sounds. Future Brown caught early attention with their
breakaway track featuring Chicagos rising star Tink. The first producers outside of her city to champion the young vocalist (who is
now working on her debut album with Timbaland and Andr 3000), the epic Wanna Party now bookends the album with another
Tink collab, Room 302. Other vocalists include grimes Ruff Sqwad members Rapid and Dirty Danger, Kelela, Yung Chops 8TMG

Paul Jones is the legendary British Invasion singer who sang the Manfred Mann hits Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Sha La La, Pretty Flamingo, If You Gotta Go
Go Now, Oh No Not My Baby, Come Tomorrow and 5-4-3-2-1 (the Ready Steady Go TV theme song).
Paul has toured the UK, Europe and Australia regularly for decades both with The Manfreds (made up of former members
of Manfred Mann) as well as with The Blues Band. He also has had a weekly blues radio show on BBC2 for 25 years. But he has rarely recorded music in
his own name. On Suddenly I Like It he does so and its a roaring return.
In addition to an ace band he has recruited a few of his pals including Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Vince Melouney and Jools Holland. Eric appears on
two tracks including the r&b cover Starting All Over Again as well as Pauls own Chose Or Cop
Out. Bonamassa solos on another classic, Beggar For The Blues, while former Bee Gees guitarist Vince Melouney guests on
the Temptations Soul To Soul.
The band that backs Paul on every track consists of Texas guitar star Jake Andrews, Tony Marsico (Cruzados, Bob Dylan) on
bass, Mike Thompson on keys (Eagles, Don Henley, Rod Stewart) and Alvino Bennett on drums (Bryan Ferry, LTD, Stevie
Wonder).
This album, Suddenly I Like It, was produced in Los Angeles and London by Carla Olson who has also produced albums by Joe Louis Walker, Phil

Devo, the beginning happened in the basements and garages of
Akron, Ohio. The songs they wrote were raw and unfiltered with
no commercial intent. They called it Hardcore Devo. Performing
21 oddities, this is a tribute to departed, original Devo bandmate,
Robert "Bob 2" Casale. Filmed live on June 28, 2014 at the Fox
Theater in Oakland, California.

In 1978 Cheap Trick were at the top of their game, and this
December broadcast recording catches them at razor-sharp
rockin' perfection. The venue was Passaic, New Jersey's Capitol
Theater that was a popular stop on almost every major rock
band's North American tour schedule during the 1970s and early
1980s. Cheap Trick's origins lay in a band called Fuse, formed in
Rockford, Illinois, in 1967 by guitarist Rick Nielsen and bassist
Tom Petersson, who recorded a poorly-received album for Epic
in 1970. Eventually they returned to Rockford, linked up with
drummer Bun E. Carlos and later vocalist and guitarist Robin
Zander, and recorded a demo as Cheap Trick in 1975. They
signed to Epic and released their first, eponymous record in
February 1977.

By November of 1968 Quicksilver Messenger Service had been

headlining local Bay Area ballrooms and dance halls for nearly three
years. Enormously popular from the beginning and attracting similar
crowds to the ultimately more successful bay area underground acts
like Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead, Quicksilver however had
very much created a unique sound which was more folk & garage
based than that of their local contemporaries. Indeed at this gig,
broadcast live from 'Frisco's Winterland in the closing months of '68,
QSM were headlining with the Dead as support - along with Iowa 5
piece, the relatively unknown Linn County. A culmination of numbers
recorded across Thursday 7th through Sunday 10th, this became
known as a 'magical weekend' in the area. Quicksilver and Grateful
Dead were great friends at the time and musically pushed each other
to provide electrically charged performances whenever they played
together, and by the time of this gig mainman John Cipollina had
perfected his very unique guitar style which is clearly evident on this
recording. The line-up of the band on this autumnal San Francisco
evening close to 50 years ago, was John Cipollina on lead guitar and
backing vocals, Gary Duncan on guitar and vocals, David Freiberg
on bass and vocals and Greg Elmore on drums. Those puzzled by
the absence of vocalist and songwriter Dino Valenti at this show
should be reminded that, although Valenti had been present in a very
early line-up of the group, it wasn't until New Years Eve 1969 that he
became QSM's lead singer and main composer.

We are proud to announce the release of the third volume of the

soundtrack from the Syfy Network series Flash Gordon which
aired in 2007-2008. The show was produced by Robert Halmi
who is known for his many epic miniseries (Moby Dick, Tin Man,
Merlin, Farscape and many others). The show ran for 22 exciting
episodes and featured the music of composer Michael Picton.
Michael Picton is an award-winning composer who has written
music for film, television, theatre and even the circus.
The music for Flash Gordon features bold orchestral sounds
mixed with a rock vibe and even brooding atmospherics. There
are moments that rock the listener where others lure them in with
a nice melody. While Flash Gordon only ran for one season,
there is a lot of great music for fans and collectors of science
fiction scores alike. This album features music from the last
seven episodes, including the finale of Ming's Execution.

Jimmy Smith was one of the first musicians to use the Hammond
organ in jazz and popular music, taking it up in 1951 and
establishing a formidable reputation in Philadelphia, before
coming to prominence with his 1956 appearances at New York's
Caf Bohemia., followed by dates and Birdland and the 1957
Newport Jazz Festival, cementing his place as the pioneer of the
Hammond in jazz and R&B. After occasional recordings early in
the '50s, he recorded regularly with his own trio from 1956, and
this collection chronicles that first decade of his career as he
effectively established a sub-genre within popular music,
recording prolifically for Blue Note while touring regularly,
becoming a favourite with club audiences, who enjoyed the
crossover feel of his music, incorporating contemporary rhythm
and blues styles with sophisticated bop influences, as he used
the organ to create a group sound in what became a familiar trio
line-up with guitar and drums. This great value 4-CD set,
includes tracks from most of his significant sessions and albums
along with some 'live' recordings, and it provides an excellent
overview of both the best-known and perhaps less familiar work
from the formative decade of a career that lasted half a century,
and is a great introduction to one of the influential and innovative
figures in jazz and R&B in the post-war era.

Thelonious Monk was undoubtedly one of the most important

and distinctive pianists to emerge in the post-war era, with a
unique style which was at times controversial and
misunderstood, but with an ability to develop improvisations in a
musically logical and coherent way. As the house pianist at
Minton's, widely regarded as the spiritual home of bebop, he took
part in the legendary late-night improvised sessions in the early
'40s alongside the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and
Charlie Christian, and over the next two decades, he worked with
a remarkable array of the genre's top names in small group lineups, as well as making solo recordings. It was with a series of
albums in the mid-to late '50s that the wider market finally
latched on to what aficionados had appreciated for some time in

of his work from across that period, including the landmark tracks
which are recognised as iconic contributions to the jazz canon,
and including performances alongside the likes of Miles Davis,

Johnny Burnette is best known as the teen idol late era rock 'n'
roller, whose Top 5 hits with "Dreamin'" and "You're Sixteen"
typified the lightier, poppier direction that rock 'n' roll took at the
start of the '60s. However, his roots were in the country rockabilly
music of the mid-50s, when he featured with his brother and
songwriting partner Dorsey Burnette in The Rock 'n' Roll Trio.
Although the perceived wisdom is that most rock 'n' rollers relied
on Tin Pan Alley for their songs, the Burnette brothers wrote the
majority of their own material, and Johnny's talent was much
broader than some of his contemporaries. This collection
provides a thorough trawl through all the singles he released
under his own name in the USA and UK through to 1962 from his
1956 debut on the tiny Von label through his time with Coral,
Freedom and then Liberty, the label where he found success
with the some of the first productions by the legendary Snuff
Garrett, who introduced strings into Johnny's recordings. It also
includes by way of a bonus, the tracks from his EP releases in
the UK and USA which did not appear on his single releases. It's
a great value 62-track 2-CD set, encapsulating the entirety of his
chart career prior to his tragic early death in 1964 in a boating
accident.

Marty Robbins is undoubtedly best-known for the crossover

country/pop hits like "El Paso" and "Devil Woman" that he
enjoyed on both sides of the Atlantic and which came from his
landmark "Gunfighter Ballads And Trail Songs" albums.
However, he had been having country hits in the USA since 1952
when he debuted in the Country charts at No. 1 with "I'll Go
Alone", and had further No. 1s with iconic songs like "Singing
The Blues", "White Sport Coat" and "The Story of My Life", which
gave him his entry to the pop charts as well as providing material
for hit cover versions by pop artists in both the US and most
notably in the UK.

Silver's big break came in 1950 backing saxophonist Stan Getz

at The Sundown Club in Hartford, Connecticut. It was with Getz
that Silver made his recording debut, for the 1950 Stan Getz
Quartet album. Silver moved to New York City in 1951, where he
worked at the jazz club Birdland on Monday nights, when
different musicians would come together and informally jam.
During that year he met the executives of the Blue Note label
while working as a sideman. He eventually signed with them,
remaining there until 1980. In New York, he co-founded the Jazz
Messengers, a cooperatively-run group with Art Blakey. In 1952
and 1953 Silver recorded three sessions with his own trio,
featuring Blakey on drums and Gene Ramey, Curly Russell and
Percy Heath on bass. Silver was also a member of the Miles
Davis All Stars, recording the Walkin' album in 1954. From 1956
onwards, Silver recorded exclusively for Blue Note, eventually
becoming close to label boss Alfred Lion, who allowed him
greater input on aspects of album production than was usual at
the time. During his years with Blue Note, Silver helped to create
the rhythmically forceful branch of jazz known as "hard bop",
which combined elements of rhythm-and-blues and gospel music
with jazz. This 6 CD compilation features all of Horace Silver's
recorded output between the years of 1952 and 1962, the first,
and many would say most productive and challenging, decade of
this masterful composer, performer and musician's career.

Born Edward Lee Morgan in Philadelphia on July 10, 1938. A

leading trumpeter and composer of the hard bop genre, he
recorded prolifically from 1956 until a day before his death in
February 1972. His primary stylistic influence was Clifford Brown,
who gave the teenager a few lessons before he joined the Dizzy
Gillespie Big Band at 18. Morgan began recording for Blue Note
Records in 1956, eventually making 25 albums (as leader) for
the company, working with more than 250 musicians. Joining Art
Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1958 further developed his talent
as a soloist and composer. He toured with Blakey for a few
years, and was featured on numerous albums by the
Messengers, including Moanin', one of the band's best-known
recordings. The drug problems of Morgan and Timmons forced
them to leave the band in 1961, and the trumpeter returned to
Philadelphia. On returning to New York in 1963, he recorded The
Sidewinder (1963), which became his greatest commercial
success.. Morgan was killed in the early hours of February 19,
1972, at Slug's Saloon, a jazz club in New York City's East
Village where his band was performing. Following an altercation
between sets, Morgan's common-law wife Helen More, shot him.
The ambulance service was reluctant to go into the
neighborhood where the club was located and Morgan bled to
death. He was 33 years old.

This superb performance, from October 1992, broadcast live by

radio station WFMU-FM from Upsala College, New Jersey, predates Jeff Buckley's debut by a little over a year. In the year's
following this largely forgotten show, Jeff released his acclaimed
debut album, 'Grace', and went on to tour the world to
widespread acclaim. Undoubtedly his brief but meteoric career
would have continued to flourish and develop in the fullness of
time had the awful events of May 29 1997 not extinguished any
hope of a long, promising life in music. Luckily a handful of
historic recordings like this remain to recall what might have
been.

Many of the boys in my class went on to become involved in drugs and crime, Dudamel remembers today. Those who
played music did not.
Dudamels parents, concerned about his future, had enrolled him in music classes at their local nucleo, part of
Venezuelas music education programme. Affectionately known as El Sistema, the National System of Youth and
Childrens Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela does a great deal more than merely keeping youngsters off the streets.
It is all the vision of one man. 40 years ago, Jos Antonio Abreu gathered eleven youngsters in a parking garage and told
them that they were making history. At the next rehearsal, there were 25 young musicians; the following day, 46; the day
after, 75. In the heady days of the Venezuelan oil boom, Abreu managed to get government funding for his scheme from
the department of health, arguing that the well-being of children at risk was at stake.
Eight changes of government later, Abreu is still able to convince the politicians in charge that El Sistema is a good
investment. The government funds it precisely because of the social emphasis of the programme, he explains. The
state has understood perfectly that this programme, although it works through music, is essentially a social project, a
project for human development.
