the new SAP Transportation Management (SAP
TM) Application.
Since mid-2011, the new integrated SAP soft-

ware to support transport logistics is available.

The objective is optizmizing planning and execution of transports; both for shippers and logistics service providers. From its very inception, SAP TM has offered a very high degree of

coverage of a variety of industry-specific requirements. In addition, the Company will continue to invest in the solution to support even
more industries and to round out the existing
functionality.

The fully integrated SAP supply chain event

management is the technical foundation for
tracking and tracing. In case of exceptions,
planners and dispatchers are notified automatically.
The integrated freight cost calculation allows
already during order processing a detailed analysis of profitability. The freight costs can be used
for billing to customers as well as for invoice verification or self-billing with carriers in the case

of subcontracting. The seamless integration with

the SAP financial accounting allows automatic
billing, and a payment of the invoice for the billing procedure.
ERP integration and flexible architecture allow
for effective change management: Changes in
upstream processes (e.g. volume or change of
date in the sales order) can be handled flexibly,
e.g. using an automatic, rule-based notification
of internal and external parties involved.

Functions in detail
Order Management enables the automatic
transfer of transportation requirements from
one or more ERP systems, the manual entry of
forwarding orders in SAP TM and EDI connectivity to external business partners. Via flexible
configuration, transportation requirements are
consolidated or split (e.g. to build FTL Transports as much as possible).
The cost-based planning and optimization creates transportation proposal according to specific
criteria and objectives, and enables the consolidation of input and output loads in round trips.
Business rules such as incompatibilities between
products or home bans on certain carriers with
a customer can be defined flexibly, and are automatically considered. For multi-modal transports, each stage can be planned separately
to select the optimal route. Each segment of a
transport can be assigned to a specialized planner. Depending on utilization and other criteria,
own resources or external carriers are assigned
to a transport. Suitable carriers are found via an
optimized service provider selection. Optionally,
a tender process can be started automatically.
The orders/RfQs are submitted automatically by
e-mail, fax or EDI.
