Biostatistician

Bienestar’s mission is to “Enhancing the health and well-being of the community through

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Evaluations, the Biostatistician will
support BIENESTAR by creating and maintaining statistical database and providing statistical
assistance to BIENESTAR’s staff.

General Responsibilities:
• Assist BIENESTAR’s personnel by providing statistical support for research projects in the
areas of study design, data extraction, appropriate statistical analysis and interpretation of
results: provide statistical support and consultation for grant preparation, studies, and
protocols; and provide consultation on statistical method, questionnaire construction, and
data gathering and analysis techniques.
• Develop and analyze a variety of research data, using appropriate statistical methods:
design and apply standardized and customized computer techniques to data analysis using
statistical analysis software.
• Create and maintain statistical and informational databases and data entry forms.
• Prepare consistency checks, tables, and figures.
• Write scientific reports, assist with the preparation of manuscripts, and contribute to the
preparation of research proposals for submission to external bodies.
• Implement research studies and prepare summary data for research publications.
• May coordinate analysis efforts across multiple research projects.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications and Requirements:


 Master's Degree.
 Advanced knowledge of statistics, including generalized linear and mixed models.
 Report preparation skills
 Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data
 Ability to operate personal computer and various software programs
 Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team setting
 Ability to work independently
 Able to deal with complicated judgments in a creative and open-minded way and can
extract
and present key information accurately and imaginatively.
 Ability to undertake statistical analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex data
 Ability and willingness to learn new statistical software programs.
 Strong management skills, as shown through management of multiple projects and or staff.
 Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but
not required.
 Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities
 Demonstrated initiative and motivation
 Experience with one or more statistical software packages (SAS, Stata, S-Plus, R or SPSS)
for manipulation and analysis of data sets.
 Experience with system development operations in one or more relational database
management programs (Access, Paradox).
 Experience and expertise is strongly preferred in psychometric analysis methods such as
confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling.
 Experience in developing and evaluating measurement methods and tools is also preferred.
 Experience with the design and maintenance of relational databases.
 Experience with Bayesian analysis and/or multi-level modeling desirable.

HOURS: 40 hours per week. Some weekends and evenings required. Some travel might be
required.

 The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while
providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
