E-mail Print

Files are saved using standard Windows conventions.

1. New File: This clears the fields, but does not allocate a filename, nor save any data.
2. Open File: This opens a dialog to open a *.V25 file. The dialog will remember the last location that
you navigated to using the dialog.
3. Save File: If there isnt a current file name the user will be asked to select a filename which can be
different than the tag number. If the file was opened or saved previously the file will be saved without
asking for a file name or location. If you want to save the file to a different name or location select
Save As on the file menu. The current file name is displayed in the program title bar.
4. E-mail: The current file is added to an attachment in a new email.
5. Print: The sizing is printed to the current printer settings.
To change the current printer settings select Printer Setup on the File Menu.

Entered and Estimated Data

1. Fluid properties and other sizing values are estimated by default but can be entered directly.
Click the label to the left of the field to change a field to and from entered and estimated.
2. There is not always an estimation available for a property.

Warnings
1. There are seven warning boxes:
Low Y Factor
The Y factor is less than 0.96, however the application may be acceptable
Low Dp
The minimum Dp is <= 0.1 inWC.
Low Re
The minimum Re is <= 8000, however the application may be acceptable.
Cavitation
Cavitation (flashing) may be present. Possible fix is to decrease the fs Dp.
High Dp The Dp fullscale is too high.
Gas at P,T
The fluid may be in a gas state at the pressure and temperature given. (check Pv)
Liquid at P,T
The fluid may be in a liquid state at the pressure and temperature given. (check Pv)
2. There are borders that appear around the density, viscosity, compressibility and isentropic exponent
field labels when a value is required.

Calculation
1. After the last field is populated with data, select another field to execute the calculation.
If the sizing program does not solve for the target value please see the troubleshooting section.
2. The sizing can be solved for one of the following:
2a. fullscale flowrate (Q)
2b. fullscale differential pressure (Dp)
2c. meter inside diameter (ID)
2d. beta ratio (Beta)
*The solution for inside diameter is only intended to narrow the possible pipe sizes. Standard inside
diameters are solved for. Once the inside diameter is populated the user should change the solve method
to Dp or Q and then change the inside diameter to meet the application requirements. To change the
solve method click one of the radio buttons located left of 2a, 2b, 2c, and 2d.

Gas Expansion Factor

New Gas Expansion Factor (Rev August 2001)

conventional V-Cones:
The new equation is the default. The adiabatic can be selected.
Wafer-Cone:
The adiabatic equation is used with no option to use the new equation.
Pre-existing sizings:
The above two rules apply.
low y factor warning:
< 0.8 for new equation
< 0.96 for Adiabatic equation
The option to set which equation is used is accessed from the menu bar Options / Gas Expansion Factor

Troubleshooting
If the sizing program does not solve for the target value:
(a) The density can not be calculated or was not entered.
(b) The flowrate entered causes the DP calculation to be so high that the DP calculation fails.
Try lowering the flowrate or increasing the line size.
(c) The flowrate unit of measure is inappropriate for the application.
(d) The density calculation may fail due to the entered operating temperature.
(e) Gas application.: Normal and Standard gas flows require values for Pb, Tb, and Zb.
(f) Gas application.: The isentropic exponent doesn't have a value and therefore the Y factor is zero.

Tables
Range Beta vs. Dp (0.05 increments)
This table shows a range of beta ratios from 0.45 to 0.85 in 0.05 increments.
The user can click a row in the table to set the sizing beta ratio and Dp relationship.
Range Beta vs. Dp (0.01 increments)
This table shows a range of beta ratios from 0.45 to 0.85 in 0.01 increments.
The user can click a row in the table to set the sizing beta ratio and Dp relationship.
Turndown Table
The maximum flowrate divided by the minimum flowrate is the turndown.
Example: 1000 SCFM / 100 SCFM = 10:1 turndown
All three tables above require that all of the necessary data is present.

Sending Files
Receiving party has the sizing program:
1. E-Mail the file from the program.
Receiving party does not have the sizing program:
1. Copy the data to the clipboard and paste the text into a new notepad file. Email the file.
After the person receives the file it can be double clicked and should open in Notepad on their system.
2. Copy the data to the clipboard and paste the text directly into an email.
If this is done you should change the font to Courier New which is fixed size font.
3. Print and fax the sizing report.
4. Print the sizing directly to your fax server.
5. Print the sizing directly to Adobe Acrobat 3.0 writer and then email.
For more information on this method go to www.adobe.com/acrobat.

Special Models
If you require a special model please use the following syntax:
{series}{size}-xx ie. VS10-XX, VW04-XX
With any special model be specific regarding material grades and coatings.

Screen Colors
The color settings can be changed by the user.

Typical Sizing Process
1. Start a new record.
2. Select the desired units of measure.
3. Select a fluid from the fluid list.
Examples:
a. STEAM
b. NATURAL GAS 17.4 mW
c. TANK FEED WATER
d. TANK SUPPLY LINE (WATER)
In example c the properties of water are used even though there is a special name.
In example d the properties of water are used and the word WATER is not printed on reports.
4. Select a model number.
For standard meter tubes the meter inside diameter is set automatically.
5. Select meter tube and cone material thermal coefficients.
The aPE values are used to calculate the Fa term.
Click the pipe and cone buttons in the dialog to set the values to entered on the main screen.
6. Select the desired operating range; turn down.
The maximum flowrate divided by the minimum flowrate is the turndown.
7. Enter the line pressure, line temperature, full-scale flowrate, and inside pipe diameter: P, T, Q, I.D.
8. Adjust the fullscale Dp and beta ratio relationship until satisfactory.
A beta ratio can be selected by clicking the appropriate row in either of these two tables.
The beta ratio and Dp can also be entered directly.

9. Specify calibration requirements.

10. Specify non-destructive testing.

11. Specify an application industry.

12. Save the file.
