accreditation arena for one of its customer.
ISO 9001:2008 is an outline for a Quality Management System

When we build our Quality Management


System based on ISO 9001:2008, we will
be managing our organization as a system
of interrelated processes.

We will plan these processes; identify how


they relate to each other, set goals,
measure the processes and make
improvements.

ISO does not stipulate anything on the


financial side of the organization
What is the Origin
Prior & during world war there were lot
of dissimilarities in business and
manufacturing.
Bomb manufacture was the real point of
start.
Bringing in a concept of systematization
was in focus.

Today as many as 170+ countries are part of
this non profit ISO (International Organization
for standardization) with HQ in Geneva
The core activity of ISO is to evolve a code of
conduct otherwise known as standards for
business applications
This standard is applicable to any type of
organization no matter what size what
business.

Originally evolved in 1987
Second issue in 1994
Third issue in 2000
Fourth issue in 2008
Generic in nature and does not stipulate
any direct methodology but emphasizes
on evolving own methods of acceptable
nature within the purview of standards.

that develops Standards for use
worldwide to help companies plug
into the world market.

ISO 9001:2008 Outlines criteria for a


good Quality Management System (QMS)
Quality Management System Criteria
An International Group of Business and Quality Professionals determined criteria.
These criteria are basics of good business practice. For example:

o Set quality goals


o Ensure customer requirements are understood and met
o Train employees
o Control production processes
o Purchase from suppliers that can provide quality product
o Correct problems and make sure they do not happen again
o Above all paves way for control mechanism and metrics
Once the quality system is in place a
Registrar will come and audit.
If all the criteria are being followed, the
company will be ISO 9001 Registered.

Registered companies put their


Registration mark in marketing materials.
Potential customers will know that we have a
good Quality Management System in Place.
The ISO 9001 Standard

The requirements cover everything from how


we plan our processes, to how we carry
them out, measure them and improve them.

The standard calls our processes "Product


Realization". This is where we are actually
making our product or delivering our service.

 The output of one process is the input for the next process
 Requires that your processes are controlled and managed for continual
improvement
General Requirements
The standard requires that our organization has a
Quality Management System in place that meets the
requirements of the standard.
An organization must:
 Establish a Quality Policy and Quality Goals, and
 Design a Quality Management System to control
how processes are performed
Quality Goals
Quality goals are established to
support the quality policy. They
are measurable, specific goals.
As we meet the goals, new goals
can be set.

Once Management has established the Quality Policy and Objectives, we
continually improve the effectiveness of the QMS.

assess opportunities for improvement and need
for changes

been established to determine and meet customer
