The Elemental and Photoluminescent Properties of the Undopped

Sr2P2O7.2H2O Nano Phosphor

ABSTRACT
The present paper reports the BET, Photoluminescence (PL) EDAX and
DTA/DSC of the undopped Sr2P2O7.2H2O phosphor. The BET surface area
measurement was carried out to confirm range of particle size majority of
particles found in range of 10 nm to 40 nm. An elemental analysis was carried
out for Strontium Pyrophosphate (Sr 2P2O7.2H2O) by employing the energy
dispersive X-ray analysis technique which confirms the elemental composition.
Under the excitation of 244 nm wavelength, PL properties of the samples using
spectrofluorophotometer at room temperature. PL emission of the undopped
Sr2P2O7.2H2O phosphor shows two peaks at 420 nm and 439 nm with good
intensity.
Keywords: BET, Photoluminescence, EDAX.

PHOTOLUMINESCENCE STUDY (PL)

The PL excitation spectra of the undopped Sr2P2O7.2H2O phosphor is shown in fig.
1. PL measurements were performed under an excitation power 20 mW using the UV-244 nm
line of a continuous wave Ar+ Laser frequency doubling unit. Photoluminescence spectra
have been recorded at room temperature with an excitation wavelength of 244
nm for the sample. When the sample was kept at continuous excitation of 244
nm, the emission peaks appeared at 313 nm, 420 nm and 439 nm. The intensity
of the emission peak at 313 nm is as low as four times as compared to 420 nm
and 439 nm peaks. A strong and narrow emission peaks are observed in the
wavelength range 420 nm - 445 nm It is interesting to note that maximum
intensity with 439 nm emission peaks found in 420 nm - 445 nm region reveals
the emission in the blue region. The Sr2P2O7.2H2O phosphor shows good
photoluminescence, may be useful in lighting applications.
Energy Dispersive X-RAY Analysis (EDAX)
An elemental analysis was carried out for Strontium Pyrophosphate
(Sr2P2O7.2H2O) by employing the energy dispersive X-ray analysis technique
which provides local information of the concentrations of different elements in

phosphor. Fig- 5 shows the EDAX spectra of Sr 2P2O7.2H2O in which the presence
of Sr, P and O are clearly identified from the spectral data. Atomic percentage
and Weight percentage of Sr, P, O elements in sample is found to be 11.75 %,
10.43 %, 77.82 % and 39.64 % 47.92 %, 12.44 % respectively it can be
visualized that the compound possesses high purity [].
