Competences: To develop students skills in listening and speaking
Lesson Aims: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able:
1. to improve Ss' capacity of communication and all their skills
2. to learn about and use the articles a/an, the and zero article in meaningful context
Classroom relation: whole class, group work, individual work.
Materials: textbook, blackboard, worksheets,
Assumptions: The students are familiar with countable and uncountable nouns.
The Students are familiar with some of the vocabulary items used.
Anticipated problems: The pupils could find difficulty in speaking, some students may not feel self-confident
about their pronunciation so it will take time for the activities to take place.

PROCEDURE:
Activity 1: Warm-up
Time: 3
Skills: listening and speaking
Interaction: teacher-students
Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils and asks them a few ordinary questions (How are you today? Whats
the date?). The teacher asks them questions such as: If I say summer what do you think about? or If I say
town what do you think about?. T asks the duty Ss if there is anyone missing and makes sure the conditions
are proper for the lesson to begin.

Procedure: A few Ss read the sentences given as homework (sentence transformation exercise, 10/37).
Activity 3: Lead-in
Revising countable and uncountable nouns

Procedure: Ss are given worksheets and they have to decice if the nouns from the list are countable, uncountable
or both.
Activity 4 : Presentation
Time: 10

Context: grammar table from page 40
Procedure: The teacher goes through the table with the class. After each category the Ss are asked to make up
similar sentences and the teacher writes them on the board. Here are some examples:
1. Dogs are mans best friends. A/The dog is mans best friend.
2. The sun has just come out.
3. She has got a brother and a sister. The sister is fifteen.
4. I like cheese. The cheese that my mother makes is tasty.
5. The French speak fast.
Activity 5: Comprehension check.
Time: 20

Interaction: group work
Context: game: The article auction
Procedure: The Ss are devided in three groups. The teacher gives them a list of ten sentences, some correct and
some incorrect. In groups Ss decide which sentences are correct. The teacher sells the sentences to the group
which offers the highest bid. The maximum amount of money they can spend is 500 per group. When the
auction ends the teacher goes through the sentences. Groups who can correct a sentence get a bonus 25. The
group with the most correct sentences wins. If two groups have the same number of correct sentences, the group
with the most money wins.
Activity 6: Organising feedback

Procedure: The teacher makes appreciations and corrects the major mistakes she has identified during the class
(if there were any).
Activity 7: Setting homework
Time: 2
Procedure: Students have to do exercise 12/41. They are asked to have a look and see if they have any
questions.
