HOW IT WORKS?
Through the GSM Association standards have been set for seamless roaming
constantly updated by the introduction of new services or technologies.
Operators want to be able to offer the same services abroad as at home and
same quality E2E.
Roaming services have therefore evolved from basic GSM, to GPRS/EDGE, 3G/
HSDPA to now LTE.
The introduction of new services or technology requires new network (IREG)
and billing (TADIG) tests.
Operators apply wholesale charges to each other. Every operator sets its own
roaming tariff plans for its own customers.
Within Europe, roaming has always been an easy target for common policy.
Roaming regulation applies from 2003 and has become more restrictive over
the years.
