TO C ONNE CT YOUR MACHINE


Be sure power switch is OFF . INS E RT machine plug (A) into the
machine socket. C ONNE CT the transformer (B) to your electrical
outlet.
Ensure that machine is threaded correctly.
See pages 6 and 7 of these instructions.

TO BEGIN MENDING
1. T U R N h a n d wheel (A) c l o c k w i s e , raising needle to highest
position.
2. LIFT f o o t (B) with foot lever ( C ) .
3. P O S I T I O N area to be m e n d e d u n d e r foot.
T U R N h a n d wheel c l o c k w i s e , lowerin g needle i n t o existing
stitches in fabric.
Lower foot.
G U I D E fabric toward b ack of machine.
T U R N m a c h i n e " O N " a n d m a c h i n e will begin o p e r a t i n g
immediately.
C o n t i n u e r u n n i n g m a c h i n e until new stitches overlap
e x i s t i n g stitches.
W h e n m e n d is c o m p l e t e d , T U R N power "OFF".
4. RAISE needle to highest p o s i t i o n ; LIFT foot.
M O V E fabric toward back of m a c h i n e .
C U T t h r e a ds 1 0 c m ( 4 " ) f r o m e d g e of fabric.

TO WIND THE BOBBIN


1. R EMOVE bobbin winder pin (A) f r o m accessory tray behind door.
PUSH it d o wn firmly in center of hand wheel.
2. MOVE slide cover to the left.
TURN hand wheel clock wise, moving carrier to the far left.
3. LIFT O UT bobbin case from carrier.
4. R EMOVE bobbin (B) from case (C).
5. PLACE spool of thread, with slit on bottom, on spool pin (D)
behind door so thread unwinds fro m back of spool.
LEAD thread from spool through back of thread guide (E).
BRING thread from guide into centre hole of slotted end of
bobbin.
SLID E slotted end of bobbin over winder pin and PUSH D O W N
into place.
CUT excess thread from top of bobbin.
TURN machine ON and slowly GUIDE thread up and d o wn
as bobbin winder turns.
TU R N machine OFF ; before thread winds beyond rims of
bobbin.
CUT thread 7.5 cm (3") from bobbin.
R EMO V E bobbin from wind er pin and REMOVE wind er pin
fro m hand wheel.
PULL centre thread from slotted en dor bobbin and trim.

PLACE bobbin into case as follows :

TO REPLACE THE BOBBIN


Be sure to f o l l o w these steps c a r e f u l l y . If bobbin is i n c o r r e c t l y
placed, m a c h i n e will not stitch p r o p e r l y .
1. W i t h s l o t t ed end (A) to the r i g h t , P L A C E filled b o b b i n into
case ( B ) .
L E A V E 7 . 5 c m ( 3 " ) of t h r e a d outside case.

2. H O L D f i n g er over case o p e n i n g to keep bobbin in place, and


P U L L t h r e a d completely i n t o slot (C).
S N A P thread back b e tw e e n the t w o metal g u i d e s (D).
P U L L 7.5cm ( 3 " ) of thread f r o m case.

3. M O V E slide cover to the left.


T U R N hand wheel c l o c k w i s e , moving carrier to the far left.
W i t h metal guid es f acing u p , RETURN case to carrier (E).
C L O S E cover, leaving a b o u t 7 . 5 c m ( 3 " ) of t h r e a d o n
outside.

TO CHANG E YOUR NEEDLE


When th e ne edle is broken or d u l l , replace it as f o l l o ws :

T U R N h a n d wheel cl o ckwi s e until needle cl a mp s c r e w (A) is
easy to see.
L O W E R foot.
H O L D n e edle with fing ers a n d L O O S E N cl amp s cr e w on e turn
with scr ewdriv er.
L O W E R ne edle and R E M O V E .
T o r epl ace needle: L O W E R n e edl e, with flat side to th e b ack
of th e m a c h i n e , into hole u n d e r foot, then up into c l a m p as far
as it will go.

For best results, change y o u r n e edle periodically, u s i n g S ing er


#3347-14 needles, which may be o rd e r e d on the e n cl o s e d f o r m .

TO THREAD YOUR MACHINE


When it's t i m e to change t h r e a d :
T U R N h a n d wheel c l o c k w i s e until needle is in its highest
position.
LOWER foot.
P L A C E thread spool, with slit d o w n , on spool pin b e h i n d door.
T h r e a d will unwin d from b a ck of s p o o l .
D R A W thread from spool a r o u n d back of thread g u i d e post
(A).

H O L D s p o o l in place; P U L L thread between discs f r o m back


to f r o n t (B).

B R I N G thread up t h r o u g h g u i d e (C) from back to fro n t.


T h e n B R I N G thread d o w n t h r o u g h needle from f r o n t to back,
p u l l i n g 7 . 5 c m ( 3 " ) of thread t h r o u g h needle.

T o use needle threader (D), first insert wire loop f r o m back of


needle's eye. Place thread t h r o u g h wire loop. D r a w needle
t h r e a d e i , with thread, back t h r o u g h eye.

TO RAIS:. THE LOWER THREAD


All machines making a lockstitch sew with both an upper
and lower thread The thread coming through the needle's eye is the
upper thread. The thread coming fro m the bobbin is the lower thread.
Before mendi.ig, the lower thread must be brought up to meet the
upper thread To do this :
1. RAIS E foot.
H O LD upper thread lightly w i t h left hand.
Slowly TURN hand wh e el, 1 revolution clockwise, moving
needle down and up again.
G ently PULL thread in left hand, drawing up a loop (A) of lower
thre ad.
2. U N D O loop with your fingers until you find the end of the lower
thread.
3. PULL 15 cm (6") of upper and lower threads under foot and
to w a rd back of machine.
