Afrikaans

I know you must be wondering why Afrikaans? We had set criteria to select the la
nguage we would all learn.
1. It had to be somewhat easy so as many people as possible would decide to lear
n and stick with it
2. Not spoken by many so all of /int/ could learn it
Afrikaans fit these requirements splendidly. It is very easy to learn and is spo
ken natively by 7.1 million people.
I understand that Afrikaans may not have been the language of your choice in the
polls, but please join us. The entire purpose of this is to bring us all togeth
er, not bicker endlessly with each other. Just imagine, a year from now the fron
t page is 50% in Afrikaans. Some of you may be concerned that Afrikaans may be u
seless to you since it is spoken by only 7 million, and you may never run into a
nother person besides on /int/ who knows it outside of South Africa. This couldn
't be more untrue. Afrikaans is a jump start into other languages. It is so clos
ely related to Dutch that some consider Afrikaans to be only a simpler dialect o
f Dutch, so when you have a good understanding of Afrikaans, Dutch is only a cor
ner away. You'll then also have a strong foothold in any Germanic language. You
have much to gain from learning Afrikaans, not only a ton of fun with /int/.
Here is an example of Afrikaans
Alle menslike wesens word vry, met gelyke waardigheid en regte, gebore. Hulle he
t rede en gewete en behoort in die gees van broederskap teenoor mekaar op te tre
e.
