Supports the Antioxidant Defense System

2002
- Camellia sinensis

Tea

is one of the worlds most popular beverages, second only to water. The health-promoting
benefits of green tea have been recognized in China for thousands of years. Green Tea was also
recommended by the TIME magazine as the Top 10 health foods in 2002.
Although green tea and black tea are derived from the same plant Camellia sinensis, there are
significant differences in the preparation of the two. Black tea (more common in the western world) is
withered, rolled, fermented and dried for curing. Through this flavor enhancing fermentation process,
the bioactive polyphenols of the fresh leaf are oxidized, and black tea loses most of the beneficial
polyphenols.

Green tea

, on the other hand, is prepared from lightly steamed and dried leaves of the tea
plant. The steaming process inactivates the enzymes which are responsible for oxidation, leaving the
polyphenol content intact and resulting in a product with a chemical composition very similar to that
of the fresh leaf.

Green Tea Has a Potent Antioxidation

Activity

( EGCg)

A research uses PHARMANEX Tegreen97 shows that tea polyphenols are more
bioavailable in capsule form than taken as a traditional beverage, black tea and green
tea. The capsule form can also increase the flavonoid absorption and increase the
plasma antioxidant activity. The research also indicates that the supplement delivery can
retain the beneficial effects of green tea without providing the side effects of caffeine
that are associated with beverages.

Free radicals, which are involved in damaging cellular constituents, are often the result of
exposure to dietary, occupational and environmental toxins. Numerous researches have
demonstrated that the polyphenols in greens tea, particularly the catechins component,
offer potent antioxidant activity to fight free radicals. It even has been shown to be far
superior and faster acting than vitamins C, E and beta carotene. Green tea polyphenols,
especially EGCg, may help to:

A recent study found that consumption of Tegreen97, a tea polyphenols product

containing in excess of 65% tea catechins, derived from the green tea leaf, is capable of
improving lipid metabolism and balancing the metabolic rate of fat deposit and fat
burning. Therefore, it helps to reduce the pathological root causes of Metabolic
Syndrome X. The study also found that Tegreen97 may assist in stabilizing
blood sugar.

A study found that PHARMANEX Tegreen97 can promote thermogenesis in order

to reduce abdominal fat accumulation. It also reiterated the cell protection benefits of
green tea catechins in promoting cardiovascular and brain health. The findings were
presented at the American Heart Association's Sixth Annual Conference in
Washington D.C.

A clinical study showed that subject who used 10% green tea extract cream and took
300mg PHARMANEX Tegreen97 daily for 8 weeks, their elastic tissue content
grading increased 0.2. Conversely, the grading of the placebo group decreased 0.55.
This study proved that PHARMANEX Tegreen97 can increase the elastic tissue
content and prevent elastin degradation in order to help fighting the aging process from
inside out.
