I. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
*Windows: Windows 98, 98SE, NT 4.0, 2000, ME, XP
Pentium 266 MHz or higher, 15 MB hard disk space, 640 x 480 - thousands of colors
(millions recommended), 4x CDROM or higher. Note: An internet connection is req
uired for the web features of the program.
II. SOFTWARE SUPPORT FAQs
*Windows
Q1: How do I install the software?
A: For Windows CD-ROM version:
You should get an installer menu immediately upon inserting the CD-ROM into your
drive. If you do not (or if you have autorun disabled), choose Run from the St
art menu and type (or choose from the Browse button) d:\gmtsetup.exe (where d: i
s your CD-ROM drive.) Press OK and follow the prompts.
Q2: When I step through the Intro in the first time user condition on XP, the in
tro movies for yes/no dialogs for Secrets of the GMAT, the Diagnostic and Roadma
p causes the app window to turn white. This also occurs for the dialog "do you w
ant to see your results" after you've completed the Diagnostic. How can I fix th
is problem?
A: This is an issue with Quicktime on XP. Change the video settings of the Quic
kTime control panel to "use GDI."
Q3: When viewing QuickTime movies in the program using Windows 98, I hear stutte
ring and sometimes notice abnormal sound cutoffs. What can I do to fix this prob
lem?
A: This problem may occur when the Hardware Acceleration is setl to Full (as opp
osed to None). Set Hardware Acceleration equal to "none" and rerun the app. Thi
s is accessible in Win98 at: control panels->multimedia control panel->audio tab
->playback advanced properties section->performance button->hardware acceleratio
n.
Q4: Why am I getting the error " WAV file playback required " causing setup to s
top?
A: WAV files are sound files. If you get this error you probably do not have a s
ound card installed on your system. Sound cards are required for most multimedi
a CD-ROM products.
Q5: Why does my machine crash after video/audio sequences?
A: If you have ruled out memory requirements (not enough RAM) and are not trying
to run any other programs simultaneously with our program, another common sourc

e of crashes and other errors is the Quicktime for Windows runtime. If Quicktime
is incompatible with your machine, you may experience system lockups upon start
up, or error messages when the application attempts to playback movies.
If you're experiencing these types of errors, do the following:
1 - Make sure you've properly installed Quicktime for Windows. During installat
ion, the Apple Quicktime installer will ask the user if he/she wishes to remove
existing versions of Quicktime. It is important the user agree to this. A safe m
ethod of installing Quicktime is to reboot the machine, and then immediately rei
nstall the software. When the Quicktime installer runs, allow it to remove any e
xisting versions of Quicktime that it finds.
2 - If you are confident that Quicktime is installed correctly, and you're stil
l experiencing system lockups or errors during movie playback, then it is possib
le that there is an incompatibility between Quicktime and your video card. Quick
time adds a control panel applet to the Windows Control Panel. Launch this apple
t. From within this applet there is a button that says [More]. Click this button
. Then a series of tabs appear. Choose the Video tab. Under Optimization, there
are several settings that the user can select from. Choose lower and lower setti
ngs until you're successful in running Quicktime movies.
3 - Check the Apple Quicktime Web site (http://apple.com/quicktime/). for updat
ed versions of Quicktime which could fix playback problems.
Q6: I have a high-end (3D accelerating) video card. What can I do if I experienc
e random crashes and General Protection Faults?
A: In the Windows Control Panel, double-click the icon for the regular, Quicktim
e control panel. If the machine does not crash at this point, do the
followin
g:
1.Choose More.
2.Choose the Video tab at the top of the screen.
3.Under Draw Method, choose Bitmap (BMP).
4.Click the Apply button.
If the machine crashes when the QT Control Panel Icon is clicked, reboot
the machine in safe mode (press F8 while the machine is rebooting) and follow t
he steps above.
If the machine crashes after the changes are made, reboot.
