THREE PILES CAP - CALCULATION SHEET

If the foundation load "P" exceeds the resistance defined by the

Geotechnical Study for (2) piles cap, three piles must be used.
which are designed with the attached sheet.
1.- DATA
Starting the calculation sheet maximum service load in ton is provided,
and Moments in ton-m, Compressive Strength of Concrete in kg/cm,
and Geotechnical resistance of a pile in ton. The reinforced steel yield stress
and Concrete density are established in the calculation sheet
2.- PILE AND COLUMN GEOMETRY
Then the pile diameter and dimensions of the columns in cm are supplied,
please be careful with the orientation of each data in the column.

3.- CAP GEOMETRY

Here the cap geometry is determined. The calculation sheet indicates
the minimum values of effective height and distance between piles, the Engineer can
use these values taking into account the following: the distance between piles
shall not be less than 2.5 times the pile diameter or greater than three times the
diameter, regarding the effective height, the indicated value is the minimum acceptable,
so it is recommend to leave it or increase it about 5-15 cm, the seal cover of piles is
usually taken as 15 to 20 cms.
4.- REACTION OVER PILES
The calculation sheet determines the self weight of the cap and adds it to the
"P" value supplied at the beginning, taking into account the moment and
the total "Pt" loading, the sheet calculates the reaction on each pile and compares it to
the Geotechnical pile capacity and reports if it is correct or not, if it is not correct
a pile with more geotechnical capacity shall be considered.
5.- REINFORCEMENT CAP DESIGN
At this point the calculation sheet determines the cap traction strength,
with this value the sheet calculates the bottom steel area, the engineer must decide
the diameter of the bar to be used (Eighths inch). The top and lateral steel are
calculated by the calculation sheet and the engineer can choose the spacing between
brace ties to be used (Reinforced lateral steel).
The top and lateral steel can be modified by the Engineer manually
