Problem 3:
In a Cuk converter, shown below, duty ratio is adjusted to regulate the output voltage to 24 V. Let
switching frequency to be 250 kHz and converter has following parameters,
D = 0.5
L1 = 200 H
L2 = 100 H
C1 = C2 = 2 F
R = 12
a. Draw the current through inductor L1.
b. Draw the current through inductor L2.
c. Now assume that both inductors L1, L2 are large and peak-to-peak ripple in both is zero.
Determine the power dissipated as heat in the capacitor C 1. The equivalent series
resistance (ESR) of C1 is 500 m.
Problem 4:
A flyback converter has the following parameters. Assume that all components are ideal.
Determine (a) the required duty ratio D; (b) the average, maximum, and minimum values for the
current in Lm and (c) the output voltage ripple.
Problem 5:
Design a flyback converter to produce an output voltage of 36 V from a 3.3-V source. The output
current is 0.1 A. Design for an output ripple voltage of 2 percent. Include ESR when choosing a
capacitor. Assume for this problem that the ESR is related to the capacitor value by
r c =105 /C .
Problem 6:
A forward converter, shown below, has the following parameters:
(a) Determine the output voltage, the maximum and minimum currents in L, and the output
voltage ripple. (b) Determine the peak current in the transformer primary winding. Verify that the
magnetizing current is reset to zero during each switching period. Assume all components are
ideal.
Problem 7:
Design a forward converter such that the output is 5 V when the input is 170 V. The output
current is 5 A. The output voltage ripple must not exceed 1 percent. Choose the transformer turns
ratio, duty ratio, and switching frequency. Choose Lx such that current in it is continuous. Include

the ESR when choosing a capacitor. For this problem, use r c =10 /C .
