Classroom Review Program for Lean Certification
This instructor-led, collaborative review program helps candidates gain an excellent foundation for completing
the lean certification program. An interactive group review of tactical lean principles helps solidify your
understanding of the Body of Knowledge and key lean concepts and prepares you for the Lean Bronze

Lean Online Review Program (LORP)
This program allows you to stay up-to-date on the latest lean principles anytime, anywhere. These eight
online courses review the key lean principles, concepts, and tools covered in the Lean Certification Body of

Maintain Your Credentials
Keeping the credentials you worked hard for is just as important as earning them. To ensure you stay on top
of the latest advances in lean, and uphold a strong competitive edge, you must recertify every three years to
maintain your lean standing. sme.org/leanrecert
Earning Credits
Recertification requires that you participate in ongoing lean activities, which can take many forms. Whether you
recertify at the Bronze, Silver, or Gold level, you will need to document a minimum of 60 recertification credits
over a three-year period from receiving your certification or from your last recertification. Your education,
training, and development must be focused on the Lean Body of Knowledge and include activities from three
or more of the professional development activities below. sme.org/leanrecert-credits
Attendance
Earning recertification credits can be as easy as attending a conference, course, seminar, and chapter meeting.
A maximum of 30 credits can be earned during the three-year period.

Authorship
You can earn recertification credits for writing a book, applying for an award, writing a technical paper,
preparing speaker materials, and submitting your lean reflection statement.

Education
Up to 18 credits can be earned from attending college or continuing education classes, employer-arranged
training, virtual training, watching webinars, teaching a Lean Certification review program, watching a video,
and reading a book.

Involvement
Taking part in a speaking engagement, committee activity, Kaizen project, or reviewing a Lean Certification
portfolio, can earn you up to 30 credits during the three-year period. If you are interested in becoming a Lean
Certification portfolio reviewer, email certification@sme.org.
Leadership
Earn a maximum of 30 credits by becoming an elected officer or member leader of a lean organization,
mentoring a candidate on his/her lean journey, or organizing a lean event.

Gemba
Gemba activities can earn you a maximum of 30 credits. Activities include employment, performing a plant
assessment, conducting a plant or facility tour, and writing a review on a book from the recommended

Feedback
