BLACK ROASE, THE FILM:Saturday, January 24, 1:00 pm at the Cohoes Public
Library, 169 Mohawk Street. La Fdration Franco-Amricaine du New York presents the film Black Rose, based on a true story. In the 17 th century Canadian
wilderness, Father Laforgue, a young idealistic Jesuit priest, is assigned to go up river
on a perilous journey to evangelize. His Algonquin guides nickname him Black Robe.
Laforgues faith is tested as the expedition faces treacherous terrain, as well as the
hostile Huron and Iroquois. ( In French with English subtitles, mature themes, some
nudity and brutality, time: 1h45min.) A small reception will follow, and both the film
and reception are free of charge. To sign up, please call the Cohoes Library at (518)
235-2570. You may also contact Bernie Ouimet at (518) 692-2690 or

BATTENKILL CONSERVANCYS FULL MOON NIGHT

SKY CROSS COUNTRY SKI & SNOW SHOE HIKE - January 31, 2014 at the home of Jan and Tom Wolski in Cambridge,
New York. The event, open to the general public and all members
and supporters of the Battenkill Conservancy, looks to foster an
appreciation and awareness of the watersheds recreational assets. The Its Your Battenkill campaign, launched last year encourages the general public to explore, discover and tell their local officials what they want for their Battenkill.
Bill Frederick of the Salem Astronomy Club has been invited to
share his expertise on pointing out the night sky highlights and will
be setting up a high-precision telescope to identify the winter constellations. Moonlight and votive lanterns will guide skiers,
snowshoers and hikers along the wooded trails. Apple cider, hot
chocolate and winter snacks will be offered around a roaring bonfire to complete the evenings activities.
Attendees should meet at 4 McMillan Road in Cambridge, NY at
7:30 PM. Simple food or drink contributions are welcome. The
event is open to the general public and free to all current BkC
members and supporters. Additional information on discounted
equipment rentals, directions and pre-registation by emailing
bkc@battenkillconservancy.org.
Battenkill Conservancy is an all-volunteer, non profit organization
dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Battenkill watershed
through education, conservation, advocacy and the River Watch
Program. Battenkill Conservancy is managed by a Board of Directors and maintains an office in Cambridge, New York.

To All Who have donated to Operation Keep Homeless

Veterans Warm,
We at Neesons Classics Cars would to thank everyone
for the overwhelming support on our clothing drive for
homeless Veterans. This year, with everyones help, we
were able to double the amount of clothing from last year.
We will be taking two full sized truckloads to Albany. The
generosity shown by the community is truly humbling;
Neesons will now officially be making this an annual
event. So again, thank you!
Sincerely,

VENISON: FROM FIELD TO TABLE-Field Dressing, Preserving and Cooking Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County is
hosting a venison workshop on Friday, February 20, 3-5 pm. The
cost is $10.00 per person. Space is limited and preregistration is required by February 13. Call Cornell Cooperative Extension to register:
518-885-8995 or download a registration form at www.ccesaratoga.org.
This workshop will cover culinary and food safety aspects of venison
from field to table. Participants will learn meat preparation beginning
with field dressing, how to tenderize deer meat with marinades, cooking methods, and food preservation. The important science behind safely
canning meat and making jerky will be discussed. Learning to safely
can meat is a great solution to limited freezer space when considering
buying local meat or hunting. Venison is a healthy, lean source of protein that is very tasty, if properly prepared. This workshop includes
recipe sampling and a wild game cookbook. Moira Tidball, co-creator
of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Wild Harvest Table program, will
be conducting the venison workshop on February 20 with Master Food
Preserver, Diane Whitten. If you would like more information about
consuming wild game and fish, or the Wild Harvest Table program visit
the Cornell Cooperative Extension website, www.wildharvest.com, provided in consultation with Cornell Universitys Department of Natural
Resources. The Wild Harvest Table offers recipes, nutrition facts and
information on fish and wild game. For nearly 100 years, Cornell Cooperative Extension has served the people of Saratoga County, putting
to practical use the scholarship and research of Cornell University and
the national land grant system in the areas of agriculture and food systems sustainability; families, nutrition, health and safety (human ecology); youth development (4-H); environmental and natural resource
enhancement; and community and economic vitality. For more information on this and other programs, please call the office at 518-8858995, or check their website, www.ccesaratoga.org.
