1 Introductory Remarks
Installation may only be carried out by a qualified installation contractor in compliance with current rules and
regulations and the instructions in this manual.
Do not install the heat pump in rooms that may be exposed to frost!
Ensure that the floor and substructure are capable of sustaining the weight of the unit! Remember that the
weight of the unit should include the water-filled water heater (see Technical Specifications).
The unit may only be installed on a firm and level foundation.
The outdoor unit must be positioned on, and secured to, a stable base.
Separate holes should be drilled for the chilled water feed and return lines.
If there is a risk of groundwater infiltration, special insulated tubes should be
used.
Insert the conduits (1) through the wall openings from the inside making sure
3
2
3
Check that the chilled water lines (2) are well centred inside the conduits (1), so
that the thermal insulation is evenly distributed on all sides.
Seal the conduits with a suitable sealing agent (foam plastic) (4).

ATTENTION! Each filling must be well mixed. Then fill the system with the chilled water mixture from the tub (66) with the help of an external
pump (67) strong enough to vent the chilled water loop. (See diagram on the following page.)
Remove the venting vessel and connect the discharge side of the pump to the charging connection at the shut-off valve (62).
WARNING!
Ethylene glycol must be handled in accordance with
the instructions on the package!
Run the chilled water pump and the external pump in series until the liquid coming out of the return hose from
shut-off valve (61) is free of air.
Stop the chilled water pump (29) from the display menu Manual Test but let the external pump go on running.
To eliminate air between the valves (61) and (62), open valve (57) (external pump still running).
Close valve (61) and pressurize the system by means of the external pump. ATTENTION: No more than max.
300kPa (3 bar).
Close valve (62).
Stop the external pump (67) and disconnect the filling arrangement.
If there is any chilled water mixture left, keep this available in a suitable plastic container to be used for later filling of the system
(to be left with the customer).
Start the chilled water pump (29) manually and check that the level in the expansion/venting vessel stabilizes.
ATTENTION! If the system has to be refilled, the chilled water pump (29) must run. To refill the system, remove the safety valve (60)
and fill the vessel through the safety valve connection to about 2/3 of the vessel. Then reconnect the safety valve.
Keep the chilled water pump (29) running until all the air contained in the system has assembled in the expansion/venting
vessel. During this procedure, the water level in the vessel will sink and more chilled water must be added. (See above.)
Open the safety valve (60) to discharge positive pressure, if any. The water level should not be less than 2/3 of the
vessel. Check that valve (61) is closed.
Provided the heating system has been filled with water, change operating mode from
The installation may only be put into service after the heating
system, the warm water circuit, if applicable, and the chilled water circuit have
been filled. Otherwise the pumps risk being damaged.
Should you wish to use auxiliary heating exclusively, first make
sure that the heating system has been properly filled. Then
make sure that neither the chilled water pump nor the compressor
can start. Do this by selecting the operating mode ADD on the
control panel.
Please pay attention to the safety instructions!
The integral value is lower than the value selected for Integral HP and
more than 5 minutes have elapsed since the heat pump was stopped and
the re-starting delay as set in Hpinterval has expired and
the regulating pressure switch is closed (=1) and
the outdoor temperature is below the value selected for heating stop.
The integral value is lower than the value of Integral HP + Integral ADD and
the actual feed line temperature is more than 3 lower than the setpoint value and
the regulating pressure switch is closed (=1)
Additional heater Stage 4 (12 kW) and 5 (15 kW) are only activated when the temperature is -21C or colder.
These 2 stages are never activated when the compressor is in operation. Applies only to the 400V version.
The 230V version does not have stages 4 and 5.
10 Control Panel
The Atria control panel features a display unit, four control buttons,

13 Refrigerant
The compressor (refrigerant) circuit of the heat pump is charged with the refrigerant R404A.
Service and repair work on the refrigerant circuit must be carried out by certified refrigeration personnel only.
Flammability
R404A is neither flammable nor explosive.
Toxicity
Under normal circumstances, and used correctly, the refrigerant has a low level of toxicity. In spite of this, it may cause injury (even danger to
life) under abnormal conditions or if deliberately misused.
Refrigerant gases are many times heavier than air. If there is a leak of refrigerant in a small and badly ventilated room, strong concentrations
of refrigerant gas might form with resulting lack of oxygen and risk of suffocation. Therefore, the heat pump should always be placed in a
room with good ventilation.
In connection with open flame the refrigerant forms phosgene, a pungent gas that is easily recognizable by its smell already in
concentrations well below the allowed limit. In this case, evacuate the premises and air well.
Any person showing symptoms of intoxication must be moved into the fresh air immediately.
Service work on the refrigerant circuit
When repairs are made to the refrigerant circuit, no refrigerant may escape to the open air. All refrigerant must be destroyed. according to
reguoations. Draining and filling of new refrigerant is made through the service valves. For required amount of new refrigerant please refer to
the unit nameplate. If other refrigerant is used than R404A the Thermia Vrme warranty will be cancelled unless the new refrigerant was previously confirmed in writing by Thermia as being an approved replacement for R404A.
Scrapping
Before scrapping the heat pump, the refrigerant must be destroyed according to local and national health and environment regulations.
