MONDAY
14 August
2006
You can be sure our youths are night owls alright. Nearly half of the respondents (120) sleep after 2am for the reasons we all
know well: assignments and projects. This is the followed by those who hit the sack at midnight (56) and about 1am (42). Only
11 go to bed before 10pm. Some of those in bed before 9pm noted that they were sick or that it was a rare occasion.

These people rank first in the list of what is most important to youths.
Following that, 16.86% prioritises their studies, career and financial
circumstance while 13.73% of those polled went with religion.
Following that is happiness and marriage with 12.16%. It seems its
true that young people are less concerned about their health because
only 1.57% (thats only four out of the 255) opted for it. There were
about 16.86% other concerns which included their girlfriends and
their piano!
Makan apa?
Apart from the above, there were numerous
others mentioned including futsal, ping-pong,
volleyball, rock-climbing and ice-skating.
Of the 255 youths that were polled, 44 do not
participate in sports at all.
Surprisingly, while most stay up late, they wake up early too! 71 are up before 7am while 63 get out of bed between 7am
and 8am. (Now we know why eye products are such a hit!)
On a regular weekday, the waking hours are early. 41 said they wake up at around 8am followed by 25 at around 9am and
21 at around 10am. For some 11 youths, the day start in the afternoon.
Considering the fact that this poll was done during the weekday, one wonders what their sleeping hours are during the
weekends and how they make up for the sleep loss over the week.
