GENERAL INFORMATION

COURSE INFORMATION
Course Description: The course deals primarily with the basic concepts and tools
for investment and financing decisions. It begins with the role of the financial
manager and the type of fundamental decisions that financial mangers make with
fundamental knowledge about financial institutions, financial statement, cash
flows and analysing financial statements with ratio analysis and other tools used to
evaluate financial statements. The basic financial concepts and tools consist of
time value of money and risk and return concepts and then applies present value
concepts to bond and stock valuation as the basic financial institutions and
computational tools that will serve as the building blocks for analysing investment
and making fundamental decisions, such as capital budgeting decisions, financing
decision, and working capital management decisions.
Course Objectives: The primary focus of the course is to help students develop
the skills necessary to understand the basic concepts and tools to make financial
decisions. During the term, each student is expected to:

1. Know and understand the responsibility of financial manager and firm role.
2. Know and understand the foundations of financial concept, such as the
financial system and the level of interest rate, financial statements, cash
flows, and taxes, and analysing financial statements.
3. Understand the basic concepts and tools of financing decisions such as the
time value of money, discounted cash flows and valuation, risk and return,
bond valuation and the structure of interest rates and stock valuation.
4. Improve student analytical skills, ethical understanding and reasoning
abilities in maximizing the current value of the firms stock is the
appropriate goal for management.
5. To instil in students student minds the values of intellectual honesty, and
integrity, and manifest matured decision-making behaviour.
