Description
Application and general description
The GT300 Pressure Transmitter is a generalpurpose transmitter for use in engine rooms and
other similar applications. The pressure
transmitter is a gauge type. Pressure ranges from
1 up to 60 Bars. 2-wire connection, 4 to 20 mA.
Mechanical design
The transmitter consists of a capacitive pressuresensing cell together with an electronic unit
encapsulated in the sensor body. Pressure
connection is made via ISO228-G1/2 at the
lower end, and electrical connection is made via
a DIN connector at the upper end of the
transmitter. The body is made of acid resistant
steel. See Fig. 2.

capacitor. An applied pressure will deflect the

measuring membrane by a few m. The
corresponding change of capacitance will be
converted to an output voltage signal by the
hybrid electronics.

Pressure sensing capsule

The pressure transmitter is built around a dry,
robust and ceramic measurement capsule with
internal capacitive sensing, see Fig. 4. A relative
large diaphragm of 96 % alumina ceramics is
connected to a solid ceramic substrate via a glass
fritt at a distance of about 20 m. The opposite
sides of the measuring diaphragm and the
substrate have gold plates, which comprise the

As the 96 % alumina membrane is resistant to

most chemicals, the process medium is in direct
contact with the measuring membrane, thus there
is no need for costly decoupling in the form of a
filling liquid and second membrane. A filling
liquid and a second membrane will also be the
source of errors. Therefore dry capsule sensors
have superior specifications compared to wet
capsules.

Electrical connection
A CU-screened cable, with intact screen, must
always be used from the transmitter to the
monitoring system. Minimum cross cable is 2 x
0.5 mm2. The Cu-screen must be grounded via
the connector, + (plus) to terminal 1 and
(minus) to terminal 2, see Fig. 3.

Installation
As this is a general-purpose transmitter, normal
installation rules must be followed. The pressure
transmitter is designed to be mounted vertically.
The transmitter can be mounted directly to a stud
welded to the measuring point, or it can be
mounted on a wall with a control valve and
connected to the measuring point by a tube.
Pressure connection is ISO228-G1/2 threads, and
electrical connection is made via a cable gland
on the connector.

Power supply
Power supply to the transmitter is 24 VDC
nominal, and can vary from 11 to 35 V. The
allowable load resistance is determined by the
minimum power supply, see Fig. 1.

Load resistance (Ohm x1000)

Electrical description
The pressure transmitter is connected to a 24 V
power supply, 4 to 20 mA 2-wire connection. An
electronic unit in the transmitter gives stabilised
voltage to the pressure capsule. Out from the
pressure capsule a voltage signal linear with the
pressure range is converted to 4 to 20 mA in the
same electronic unit.
