PPRIT Meeting Minutes 1/15/15

Presentations:
Person Centered Learning (A Different Drum
Reading Program) Amy Abourezk, PCL
Coordinator
This is reading instruction that is: confidence
building, student-centered, focused on success and
meaning based. Positive reinforcement is a big part
of the program. They use questioning strategies for
students to figure out when something isnt right. It
usually takes 12-16 months to show reading
progress. Program helps build confidence back up.
Students are typically adults with disabilities,
school districts and some kids. Program does not
have Medicaid/Medicare.
$160.00 for 12 sessions if student is with school
district or agency. Free for students not with an
agency or school district.
Person Centered Learning is looking for a new
home. They would like to be part of an agency and
need 2 quiet rooms with a table and chairs. It
would be ideal if one room could also be a safe and
secure place to store materials and confidential
files. Must be wheelchair accessible. Internet
access and use of a copier will also help to

enhance the services that we provide for our

students. Needs to be on the bus route/Metro
mobility. PCL has no funds available to pay rent.
The space provided to them will have to be
donated.
