FOSTER AGREEMENT

I,____________________________________________________________________________________
(hereinafter referred to as FOSTER FAMILY), do this ___ day of _________________, 2002, enter into this
Foster Contract and acknowledge receipt from DOGS BEST FRIEND, (hereinafter referred to as DBF) one
or more foster dogs into my home. Throughout the adoption processes, the dog(s) in my home will change
from time to time, with the understanding that this contract will be provided for, with the best of my ability, in
following the terms and conditions below.

I understand that this Foster Contract can be amended as needed for the best consideration of the dog(s), and that the
FOSTER FAMILY should personally return the current living foster dog(s) to DBF to release DBF of any further
liability of this dog(s), with this Foster Family.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

In addition, FOSTER FAMILY agrees to the following terms and provisions:

1. FOSTER FAMILY agrees to take the dog(s) to a licensed veterinarian, as scheduled by DBF, as such
appointments are made. DBF keeps all foster dog(s) under veterinary care until they are adopted.
2 FOSTER FAMILY agrees to provide this dog(s) with a safe home, proper care and attention, and humane
treatment in accordance with all current and future state, county, and local laws and ordinances where FOSTER
FAMILY resides. The dog(s) is not to ride loose in the back of trucks, is not to be chained or tied-out, and the
FOSTER FAMILY warrants that the dog(s) will not be contained solely by a hidden fence. The dog(s) is not to
be solely an outside pet, and FOSTER FAMILY agrees that when the dog(s) is outdoors it shall be protected
from the elements, and provided with adequate food, water, fencing.
3. FOSTER FAMILY agrees to take the dog(s) to an approved DBF licensed veterinarian to provide the dog(s) with
necessary veterinary care upon emergency sickness, disease, and injury. A list of vets and emergency clinics
will be given to the foster family.
4. FOSTER FAMILY understands that there are costs involved in maintaining a dog(s), and agrees to assume full
responsibility for food & water, flea care, grooming (after the initial intake grooming), and basic health issues
including administering the monthly heartworm preventative.
5. At the time the FOSTER FAMILY takes possession of the dog(s), DBF has already provided – at a minimum –
the following vaccinations and tests at the intervals required by law and/or advised by their veterinarian: rabies,
distemper/parvo combination, bordatella and a heartworm test followed by a regular course of preventative.
Unless otherwise stated and agreed upon by the DBF.
6. FOSTER FAMILY agrees that the dog(s) will reside in his/her home, will be kept as a household pet, and will
not be used as a hunting or guard dog(s).
7. FOSTER FAMILY agrees to attempt to rehabilitate the dog(s)' unwanted behaviors only on the advice of DBF
trainers, either volunteers or professionally retained, to the best of their ability. And agrees to associated
transportation costs and time involved if extended retraining and rehabilitation is required. If the dog is showing
aggression or behavioral issues towards human, animal or other dog, FOSTER FAMILY agrees to immediately
return the dog (s) to DBF, and not relinquish dog(s) to any other organization or sheltering organization, whether
county funded or non-profit.
8. FOSTER FAMILY agrees to provide a collar and identification tag for the dog(s) to wear at all times when
allowed outdoors, and if provided with a DBF identification tag, that will also remain affixed to the collar.
FOSTER FAMILY agrees to make the dog available and to arrange transportation for DBF special identification
such as tattooing or chipping as requested.
9. DBF makes no warranties or representations regarding the dog(s)’s health or temperament. It is agreed and
understood by FOSTER FAMILY that while every effort is made to provide an accurate history and assessment
of a dog(s), DBF does not warrant any dog(s) regarding medical status, behavior, or disposition. It is further
agreed that environmental changes may effect and change the temperament of the above named dog(s) and that
DBF has no liability or responsibility of any nature regarding defects with the dog(s), or injuries or damage to
any person or property which may be caused by the dog(s). FOSTER FAMILY agrees to indemnify and hold
harmless DBF, its members and representatives against any and all claims, known or unknown, now or hereafter
arising in connection with this dog(s).

10. FOSTER FAMILY consents to the examination of this dog(s) by DBF at any time and acknowledges that DBF
has the right to reclaim the dog(s) at any time for failure to comply with the terms of this contract or for any
misrepresentations of fact FOSTER FAMILY made on the Foster application or in this contract.
11. FOSTER FAMILY agrees that if for any reason, he/she cannot keep this dog(s), he/she shall return it to DBF.
The dog(s) shall not be given away, sold, exchanged or adopted without prior written consent of DBF, and all
completed paperwork for a legal adoption. FOSTER FAMILY understands that any friend or family member
who wishes to take ownership of this dog(s) will be required to apply to DBF for the right to adopt and/or foster
it.
12. If for any reason this dog(s) has not completed its medical treatments (i.e. heartworm treatment, hookworm
treatment, spay, neuter, etc.) prior to the execution of this contract, he/she agrees to work with DBF to attend all
appointments and follow-up visits that need to be made in order to have the dog(s) healthy and ready for
adoption. FOSTER FAMILY acknowledges that until this has been accomplished, DBF has the right to and will
reclaim the dog(s) if the appointments are not made.
13. It is agreed and understood by FOSTER FAMILY and DBF that this written agreement sets forth all promises,
agreements, conditions, and understanding between them, oral or written, including the foster application
guidelines and that both parties have fully read and understood all of this agreement.
14. FOSTER FAMILY agrees to pay DBF for any and all expenses, including court costs and reasonable attorney’s
fees, in enforcing the terms and provisions of this contract. Payment of these damages shall not excuse FOSTER
FAMILY from returning the dog(s) to DBF.

IN TESTIMONY WHERE the FOSTER FAMILY and DBF have set their signatures on this the date first above
written.
