Operations:
1.Thispowertoolisintendedtofunctionasagrinder,sander,wirebrushorcutofftool.Read
allsafetywarnings,instructions,illustrationsandspecificationsprovidedwiththispower
tool.Failuretofollowallinstructionslistedbelowmayresultinelectricshock,fireand/or
seriousinjury.
2.Operationssuchaspolishingarenotrecommendedtobeperformedwiththispowertool.
Operationsforwhichthepowertoolwasnotdesignedmaycreateahazardandcause
personalinjury.
3.Donotuseaccessorieswhicharenotspecificallydesignedandrecommendedbythetool
manufacturer.Justbecausetheaccessorycanbeattachedtoyourpowertool,itdoesnot
assuresafeoperation.
4.Theratedspeedoftheaccessorymustbeatleastequaltothemaximumspeedmarkedon
thepowertool.Accessoriesrunningfasterthantheirratedspeedcanbreakandflyapart.
5.TheoutsidediameterandtheMakitagrinderthicknessofyouraccessorymustbewithin
thecapacityratingofyourpowertool.Incorrectlysizedaccessoriescannotbeadequately
guardedorcontrolled.
6.Threadedmountingofaccessoriesmustmatchthegrinderspindlethread.Foraccessories
mountedbyflanges,thearbourholeoftheaccessorymustfitthelocatingdiameterofthe
flange.Accessoriesthatdonotmatchthemountinghardwareofthepowertoolwillrunoutof
balance,vibrateexcessivelyandmaycauselossofcontrol.
7.Donotuseadamagedaccessory.Beforeeachuseinspecttheaccessorysuchasabrasive
wheelsforchipsandcracks,backingpadforcracks,tearorexcesswear,wirebrushforloose
orcrackedwires.Ifpowertooloraccessoryisdropped,inspectfordamageorinstallan
undamagedaccessory.Afterinspectingandinstallinganaccessory,positionyourselfand
bystandersawayfromtheplaneoftherotatingaccessoryandrunthepowertoolatmaximum
noloadspeedforoneminute.Damagedaccessorieswillnormallybreakapartduringthistest
time.
8.Wearpersonalprotectiveequipment.Dependingonapplication,usefaceshield,safety
gogglesorsafetyglasses.Asappropriate,weardustmask,hearingprotectors,glovesand
workshopaproncapableofstoppingsmallabrasiveorworkpiecefragments.Theeye
protectionmustbecapableofstoppingflyingdebrisgeneratedbyvariousoperations.The
dustmaskorrespiratormustbecapableoffiltratingparticlesgeneratedbyyouroperation.
Prolongedexposuretohighintensitynoisemaycausehearingloss.
9.Keepbystandersasafedistanceawayfromworkarea.Anyoneenteringtheworkarea
mustwearpersonalprotectiveequipment.Fragmentsofworkpieceorofabrokenaccessory
mayflyawayandcauseinjurybeyondimmediateareaofoperation.
10.Holdthepowertoolbyinsulatedgrippingsurfacesonly,whenperforminganoperation
wherethecuttingtoolmaycontacthiddenwiring.Contactwithalivewirewillalsomake
exposedmetalpartsofthepowertoolliveandcouldgivetheoperatoranelectricshock.
11.Neverlaythepowertooldownuntiltheaccessoryhascometoacompletestop.The
spinningaccessorymaygrabthesurfaceandpullthepowertooloutofyourcontrol.
12.Donotrunthepowertoolwhilecarryingitatyourside.Accidentalcontactwiththe
spinningaccessorycouldsnagyourclothing,pullingtheaccessoryintoyourbody.
13.Regularlycleanthepowertoolsairvents.Themotorsfanwilldrawthedustinsidethe
housingandexcessiveaccumulationofpowderedmetalmaycauseelectricalhazards.

liquidcoolantsmayresultinelectrocutionorshock.KickbackandRelatedWarningsKickback
isasuddenreactiontoapinchedorsnaggedrotatingwheel,backingpad,brushoranyother
accessory.Pinchingorsnaggingcausesrapidstallingoftherotatingaccessorywhichinturn
causestheuncontrolledpowertooltobeforcedinthedirectionoppositeoftheaccessorys
rotationatthepointofthebinding.Forexample,ifanabrasivewheelissnaggedorpinchedby
theworkpiece,theedgeofthewheelthatisenteringintothepinchpointcandigintothe
surfaceofthematerialcausingthewheeltoclimboutorkickout.Thewheelmayeitherjump
towardorawayfromtheoperator,dependingondirectionofthewheelsmovementatthe
pointofpinching.Abrasivewheelsmayalsobreakundertheseconditions.Kickbackisthe
resultofpowertoolmisuseand/orincorrectoperatingproceduresorconditionsandcanbe
avoidedbytakingproperprecautionsasgivenbelow.
a)Maintainafirmgriponthepowertoolandpositionyourbodyandarmtoallowyoutoresist
kickbackforces.Alwaysuseauxiliaryhandle,ifprovided,formaximumcontroloverkickback
ortorquereactionduringstartup.Theoperatorcancontroltorquereactionsorkickback
forces,ifproperprecautionsaretaken.
b)Neverplaceyourhandneartherotatingaccessory.Accessorymaykickbackoveryour
hand.
c)Donotpositionyourbodyintheareawherepowertoolwillmoveifkickbackoccurs.
Kickbackwillpropelthetoolindirectionoppositetothewheelsmovementatthepointof
snagging.
d)Usespecialcarewhenworkingcorners,sharpedgesetc.Avoidbouncingandsnaggingthe
accessory.Corners,sharpedgesorbouncinghaveatendencytosnagtherotatingaccessory
andcauselossofcontrolorkickback.
e)Donotattachasawchainwoodcarvingbladeortoothedsawblade.Suchbladescreate
frequentkickbackandlossofcontrol.SafetyWarningsSpecificforGrindingandAbrasive

a)UseonlywheeltypesthatareMakitagrinderrecommendedforyourpowertoolandthe
specificguarddesignedfortheselectedwheel.Wheelsforwhichthepowertoolwasnot
designedcannotbeadequatelyguardedandareunsafe.
b)Thegrindingsurfaceofcentredepressedwheelsmustbemountedbelowtheplaneofthe
guardlip.Animproperlymountedwheelthatprojectsthroughtheplaneoftheguardlipcannot
beadequatelyprotected.
c)Theguardmustbesecurelyattachedtothepowertoolandpositionedformaximumsafety,
sotheleastamountofwheelisexposedtowardstheoperator.Theguardhelpstoprotectthe
operatorfrombrokenwheelfragments,accidentalcontactwithwheelandsparksthatcould
igniteclothing.
