OLD ANALOGUE BOX GUIDE

This is a guide how to chip old boxes that

are ANALOGUE only if youre looking for
digital well wrong guide
This is a guide only for test purposes only I take no responsibility for blown up misuse of
tools etc (I do not condone chipping but I will say pay minimum to the catv companys)
this just is a helping step please do not email me on where to get boxes etc I have no clue
so dont ask most parts you can get from maplins etc I will fill in some part numbers to
help you out ok now thats out the way
First you need a box, you can get them still out there somewhere .
Tools needed
1x security screwdriver set or home made opening tool maplins code
N53AW
1x soldering iron + solider (40% tin if you can get)
1x bread board or leave floating covered with insulation tape
1x push to break switch (if you want to hold channel map) maplins code FH60Q-ND92A
1x 12c509 pic chip or 12c509a (12c509 is best but maplins always out lol) MAPLINS
CODE NR9OX-VS69A
4-6x lengths of wire (I used white, yellow, red, black, green for switch) 2 extra for switch
1x hot glue gun if you like
1x 25 pin LPT port connector maplins code YQ48C
2x croc clips maplins code FM37S-FK34M
1x meter of 2 core wire (gives you more length from CPU to box)
1x pic chip programmer (home made or from web all ready made google for best result)
Software needed
Box models, tracks, (http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37728 )
tcinit.exe
(http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37728 )
509 super. Hex (http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37728 )
Or
Hex of your choice
icprog 105c (http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37730 )
Box up
(http://www.world-of-digital.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37729 )
1st step

See what box you have then check this (link above) to see what track needs to be cut
And what pins to put 5v + ground + data link then you need to open the box (4screws)
On bottom side then you should see this.
Pic of General Instrument CFT-2100

W55-W56 is printed on the board so you can tell what track to cut if you cut the wrong
track you can FRY IT I know I was new to this as well !!!!!!!!!!
2nd step

now for the pic chip if your new to this all I can say is read there are guides on how to use
pic chip programmers on the internet try google search engine if your ok with pic chip
programming then read on..
Ok first we need IC prog v1.0.5 c or pic chip program
I use IC prog for this
Open IC prog you get this screen

You will get a config screen when you first start so you need to configure your
programmer.
Next select pic 12c509 (from pic above)
Now you will need to select the hex you want to program

Then you should get this

Note the fuses are off (some hex need some dont you should have read. me in files
anyway)
Now all we have to do is write to the chip

Then

Ok all done with that shut IC prog down

3rd step
Now we need to soldier the four wires to the chip pins like this

: note the green wires I added are for push to break switch if wanted
Red = 5v
Black = ground
White = data in
Yellow = data out
Green = push to break switch
Ok now the wires are done we need to reset the box
1. First On the bottom of the box is a 12 figure serial number composed of both numbers
and letters. Write down the first 10 from left to right ( most start with a letter)
2. Translate the letters into numbers using the following:
A=16
B=1 C=2 D=3 E=4 F=5 G=6 H=7 J=8 etc.
A Zero should be translated as a 16
Now we need the resting tool

This is it on the end of the two wires I have croc clips

Now I cut the data link first in the box (some say cut after because when soldiering the
pins get two hot and you have to remove the board to get to the bottom connections but
thats another story)

Thats how you do the link (pic shows)

Now you need win 98 boot floppy disc and you need to put tcinit.exe on the floppy as
well ok so now you have the floppy and tcinit.exe you need to put the resetting tool
To the printer port of your computer then reboot to dos let floppy boot then run tcinit.exe
You will get the prompt to type in your 10 digit S/N from bottom of box
Put the box on something like channel 8 etc then after you have connected resetting tool
and put in you number and changed the channel you press enter and you box should go to
02 thats it box reset (note if your box dont turn to 02 then try swapping the wires on the
data link just swap em round then try steps again )

Ok now we have the box reset we need to install the chip this is the pin layout again for
chip (12c509-12c509A-12c508-12c508A all the same pin outs)

In the pic above you see 1-2-3-4 are all joined I put 1-2-3 joined
4-5 push to break switch
8 Ground
7 Data in
6 Data out
1-2-3 5v
If you dont use 4-5 then just tie 4 to the 1-2-3 as above and leave 5 on its own
Ok now for the chip to box wires

Now either put box back together or boot with lid off to test
Box should go to 02 and start channel mapping
You will see some channels are there but the rest will follow you just go to wait
If you have fir the push to break switch you have to hold the BUTTON DOWN and you
will see the box go to 02 when you do release the button and let it map

If you want the box to try looking for another map push the button once when box is
switched on
Remember this is not the answer to FREE TV but it is a guide to help some boxes is
different
You just have to look at the other pic of box layouts but it is the same thing when using
12c509 etc
Ok thats it
Thanks to nawabasif
