The Materials of Glass Reactor Vessel and Glass Separator

Each time mentioned reactor vessel, the popular one is reactor pressure vessel
which is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure
substantially different from the ambient pressure. In chemical industry, glass
reactor vessel is more popular with its advantages.

Also known as pressure tube or sealed tube, pressure reactor can conduct a
reaction under pressure which can be caused by the reaction itself or created
by an external source. Pressure reactor has a lot of advantages, for example:
conduct a reaction the boiling point of a solvent, reduce the reaction volume,
including the liquid phase, and accelerate a reaction.
In addition to glass reactor, glass separator also is available on the market.
Mostly used for liquid-liquid, liquid-solid extractor, reaction experiments
under environment temperature, glass separator a developed base on the present
glass reactor to meet the real needs of the majority of biopharmaceutical
companies. Glass separator is convenient to outlet the reaction material and
no dead corner in the container.
Like glass reactor, the body of glass separator is made from boron silicon glass
which a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming

constituents. This glass is resistant to thermal shock (more so than any other
common glass); this is because of borosilicate glass has very low coefficients
of thermal expansion.
Although
Usually,
hand, it
a higher

borosilicate glass is thin, it is much strong than ordinary glass.

borosilicate glass is used in high quality kitchenware; on the other
is used in industrial production due to borosilicate glass melts at
temperature than ordinary silicate glass.

Mention again, borosilicate glass has very low thermal expansion coefficient
(about one-third that of ordinary glass); as a result, this glass is more
resistant to breaking because of borosilicate glass can reduce material stress
caused by temperature gradients. More importantly, borosilicate glass is
resistant to chemical corrosion which can be extremely useful for experiments
and chemical storage; for this reason, borosilicate glass is often used to make
devices in chemical industry, such as glass reactor and glass separator (which
mentioned in above).
Borosilicate glass, also known as Pyrex, is composed of boric acid, soda, silica,
and other additives with a lot of benefits, including: smooth and non porous
surface, no catalytic effect, non-flammability, no environmental risk, chemical
resistance, transparency, and excellent corrosion resistance, etc.
After the body of glass separator, let us talk about the discharging part where
the special designed PTFE value is used. PTFE also can be used as material of
glass reactor parts. Also known by the trade name Teflon, PTFE
(polytetrafluoroethylene) has been around since the 1960s; its mechanical
propertied can be enhanced by adding filers like carbon, glass biers, graphite,
bronze and molybdenum disulphide. And it is a one of the lowest coefficients
of friction against any solid.
In conclusion, such materials like PTFE and borosilicate glass have so many
advantages; so modern devices with these materials often have good chemical and
physical properties all the time.
