Guidelines
Audition Requirements
Improvisation (scatting) is strongly encouraged on at least one of the pieces. Your music should come
from the appropriate repertoire. Use of a Standards Real Book or Standards Fake Book is acceptable. All
audition submissions must be memorized and performed without sheet music.
Please submit digital video recordings which must include the following, in this order:
A jazz ballad (first 8 bars acappella; the rest performed with instrumental accompaniment).
A Bebop (e.g., Boplicity, Tenor Madness, Donna Lee, Au Privave ) or Blues tune (e.g., Route 66,
Everyday (I have the Blues), Stormy Monday). Songs may be sung with lyrics or scat syllables.
A tune set to a Bossa Nova rhythm (sung in English).
Guidelines for Recording Your Audition
Record your audition with live piano accompaniment. Do not use a pre-recorded format.
Leave the camera in one location. Shoot the vocalist straight on.
Use a good quality microphone and check for good balance and blend.
Make sure the level of your piano accompaniment does not overpower the sound of your voice in
the recording.
Preview your audition before you upload, and make sure the best of your abilities are
represented.
Submission Guidelines
Each submitted selection should list the Title of the piece and the Composer on the media file.
Use the space provided during the upload process to list this information.
Evaluation Criteria
Tone Production the ability to achieve a quality of sound appropriate to the type of voice and to
