1.1Abstract
DutchBanglaBankisaleadingandoutstandingcommercialbankinthearrearofbanking
business.Toallintentsandpurposesitsowntimedeliveredservicetothecustomersas
demandisconsiderablybetterthanothers.Bymeanofdaytodaycustomerareincreasing.
ThecustomersarebeingDBBLinformedconcernedwithitscontemporaryanduptothe
minuteinvestedproductseasily.Italsothinkthatproductofservicesbringsperfectiontoa
bankandbelievesthateffectivecustomercarestrengthens.Theproductknowledgeinto
customersmindsmorepositivelyandprecisely.Thereportisaboutproductsandservice
thatDutchBanglaBankofferstoitscustomers.

AgeneralwordBankmeanscommercialBankonly.Themainpurposeofthebankisto
acceptmoneyasdepositfromthepeopleandtoprovideloanforthedevelopmentofthe
business,agricultureandindustryoutofthedepositmoney.NormallyBankprovidestwo
rateinterestofthedepositmoneyandtakeshighrateofinterestfromtheloanmoney.
ThustheBankmakesitprofit.
Accordingtosection5(Five)oftheBankcompanyact1991Bankingmeansofferingloan
ortotakedepositsofmoneyfromthepublictoencourageinvestmentpayableondemand
orotherwiseanddeserveswithdrawalthroughcheque,draftorderorotherwise.
2.1DefinitionofCommercialBank
Acommercialbankisatypeoffinancialintermediaryandatypeofbank.Commercial
bankingisalsoknownasbusinessbanking.Itisabankthatprovidescheckingaccounts,
savingsaccounts,andmoneymarketaccountsandthatacceptstimedeposits.[1]Afterthe
implementationoftheGlassSteagallAct,theU.S.Congressrequiredthatbanksengageonly
inbankingactivities,whereasinvestmentDBBLlimitedtocapitalmarketactivities.Asthe
twonolongerhavetobeunderseparateownershipunderU.S.law,someusetheterm
"commercialbank"torefertoabankoradivisionofabankprimarilydealingwithdeposits
andloansfromcorporationsorlargebusinesses.Insomeotherjurisdictions,thestrict
separationofinvestmentandcommercialbankingneverapplied.Commercialbankingmay
alsobeseenasdistinctfromretailbanking,whichinvolvestheprovisionoffinancialservices
directtoconsumers.Manybanksofferbothcommercialandretailbankingservices.
2.2HistoryofDBBL
DutchBanglaBankstartedoperationisBangladesh'sfirstjointventurebank.Thebankwas
aneffortbylocalshareholdersspearheadedbyMSahabuddinAhmed(founderchairman)
andtheDutchcompanyFMO.
Fromtheonset,thefocusofthebankhasbeenfinancinghighgrowthmanufacturing
industriesinBangladesh.Therationalebeingthatthemanufacturingsectorexports
Bangladeshiproductsworldwide.Therebyfinancingandconcentratingonthissectorallows
Bangladeshtoachievethedesiredgrowth.DBBL'sotherfocusisCorporateSocial
Responsibility(CSR).EventhoughCSRisnowacliche,DBBListhepioneerinthissectorand
termedthecontributionsimplyas'socialresponsibility'.Duetoitsinvestmentinthissector,
DBBLhasbecomeoneofthelargestdonorsandthelargestbankdonorinBangladesh.The
bankhaswonnumerousinternationalawardsbecauseofitsuniqueapproachasasocially
consciousbank.
DBBLwasthefirstbankinBangladeshtobefullyautomated.TheElectronicBanking
Divisionwasestablishedin2002toundertakerapidautomationandbringmodernbanking
servicesintothisfield.Fullautomationwascompletedin2003andherebyintroduced
plasticmoneytotheBangladeshimasses.DBBLalsooperatesthenation'slargestATMfleet
andintheprocessdrasticallycutconsumercostsandfeesby80%.Moreover,DBBL
choosingthelowprofitabilityrouteforthissectorhassurprisedmanycritics.
DBBLhadpursuedthemassautomationinBankingasaCSRactivityandneverintended
profitabilityfromthissector.Asaresultitnowprovidesunrivaledbankingtechnology
offeringstoallitscustomers.Becauseofthismindset,mostlocalbankshavejoinedDBBL's
bankinginfrastructureinsteadofpursuingtheirown.
DutchBanglaBankLimitedisalsoascheduledcommercialbank.TheBankwasestablished
undertheBankCompaniesAct1991andincorporatedasapubliclimitedcompanyunder
theCompaniesAct1994inBangladeshwiththeprimaryobjectivetocarryonallkindsof
bankingbusinessinBangladesh.TheBankislistedwithDhakaStockExchangeLimitedand
ChittagongStockExchangeLimited.
DBBLaBangladeshEuropeanprivatejointventurescheduledcommercialbankcommenced
formaloperationfromJune3,1996.TheheadofficeoftheBankislocatedatSenakalyan
Bhaban(4thfloor),195,MotijheelC/A,Dhaka,Bangladesh.TheBankcommenceditsbanking
businesswithonebranchon4July1996.
Evenwithahistoryofheftytechnologicalinvestmentsandevenlargerdonations,consumer
andinvestorconfidencehasneverwaned.DutchBanglaBankstocksettherecordforthe
highestsharepriceintheDhakaStockExchangein2008.

3.0ElectronicBanking
DutchBanglaBankisthefirstbankinBangladeshtobefullyautomatedandintroduce
ElectronicBanking.Theautomationwascompletedin2003,butfurtheradditionsand
featuresarecontinuouslybeingaddedandupgraded.DBBLhasadoptedthesameexact
automationsolutionusedmymanyinternationalbankinggiants.Althoughthiswas
significantlymoreexpensivethanothersolutions,itisasmallpricetopayforaclient's
peaceofmind.
ADBBLclientnowhasunrivaledaccesstobankingfromanyDBBLbranch,ATMandPOS.All
oftheseservicesarefreeofchargeandaresurprisinglyaffordableforeveryone.Even
thoughDBBLhasinvestedmoreinElectronicBankingmorethananyotherbank,the
divisionwasneverintendedtobeprofitable.Itwasundertakenwiththesamemindset
DBBLundertakesitsCorporateSocialResponsibilitytasks.Thisiswhypaybarelynothing
eventhoughthesesameserviceswouldcostmuchmoreinothercountriesandother
banks.Neverhasanybankgivensomuchforfree.
DBBLalsohasthelargestATMnetworkinBangladesh.ThisgivesDBBLclientsfullaccessto
'anytimeanywhere'bankingnationwide.Allinternationalandmanylocalbanksusethe
DBBLATMnetworkfortheirownclients.DBBLhasinstalledover800ATMsnationwide.As
withmostthings,ATMaccesstoallDBBLATMsisunlimitedandfreeforallDBBLclients.Ifa
clientofamemberbank(notDBBL)usesaDBBLATM,thememberbankmayadda
transactioncharge.
DBBLhasthelargestITbudgetinBangladesh.DBBLmaintainsthestateoftheart
ElectronicBankingDivision.TheElectronicBankingDivisionoverseesandmaintainsDBBL's
investmentasDBBLllasimplementingupcomingprojects.
DBBListheonlylocalbanktohaveaoffsiteDataRecoverySite(DRS).DRSensuresthat
customerrecordsaresafe,backedup,anduptodateintheeventofamajorcatastropheat
theElectronicBankingDivisionheadquarters.
Since2004,DBBLhasintroducedmobileandSMSbanking.Withamobilephone,customers
canperformmanybankingoperationswiththeirphone.
DBBLisaprimarylicenseholderforbothVISAandMastercard.Itisauthorizedtoissueand
acceptpaymentsfrombothorganizations.DBBLalsoworkscloselywithbothorganizations
tobringthelatestincardtechnology.DBBLalsoofferVisaandMastercardDebitCards.

3.1ATMBoothsofDBBL
DutchBanglaBankoperatesthelargestATMnetwork,morethen849ATMBooths.DBBL
clientshaveunlimitedandfreeaccesstoallDBBLATMsnationwide.Clientsofmember
banks(notDBBL),maybechargedatransactionfeeasdeterminedbythememberbank.
3.2CardProducts
3.2.1NexusProCards
NexusPROisarevolutionarycardfirstandonlyofferedbyDBBLinBangladesh.Itisthemost
advancedcardintheworld.Unlikenormalcards,NexusPROfeaturesaprocessorchipthat
makesthecardthemostsecureandfasterthananycardworldwide.DBBLhasworkedwith
bothVisaandMasterCardtobringthisrevolutionarycardtothemarket.
Ittook3yearsforDBBLtoimplementwhatVisaandMasterCardbothdeemasthefuture
cardstandard.Itencompassesthedigitalageandthenewtechnologiesthathaveemerged
intheelectronicage.VisaandMasterCardbothrealizedthatthenormalcardis40yearsold
andtheamountoffraudulenttransactionsDBBLloosingcustomersbillions.NorthAmerica
willbehaveNexusPROcardcompliantby2016.ButnowDBBLalreadytheonlyfully
NexusPROcompliantandcertified.DBBL'sentireinfrastructure(includingATMs)havehada
costlyupgradetoenableNexusPROtoBangladesh.
Howitworks:
Normalcardsuseamagneticstripatthebackofthecard.Theinformationandsecurityon
thatmagneticstripisstationaryanddoesnotchange.Henceitcanbeeasilyduplicated.But
NexusPRO'sprocessorusesitsprocessortofullydigitallylockalltheinformation.Itprevents
theinformationfrombeingcopiedastheprocessor'generates'securitycodesratherthan
storeit.Itisaformofencryption.
ButNexusPROgoesevenfurther.Visualizeaseriesoflocksandkeys.Everylockhasa
correspondingkey.raccountatDBBLhasadigitallock,whilerNexusPROcardisadigital
keytoaccessit.Whenafraudulentcardtriestoaccessraccount,DBBLknowsthatthe
correctdigitalkeyisnotpresentedanddeniesaccess.Furthermore,DBBLreplacesthe
accountlockeverysecond.ButbecauseagenuineNexusPROcardcangeneratethecorrect
keyusingtheprocessor,itcanaccessopentheaccountlockatthatverymoment.Thenext
instanceDBBLchangestheaccountlockagain,andrNexusPROcardhastogeneratethekey
againusingitsuniqueprocessor.
TheNexusPROsystemalsopreventsoneNexusPROcardfromaccessinganotherNexusPRO
card.Thisisbecauseallprocessorsareunique.AllNexusPROcardsgeneratekeysdifferently
andDBBLisawareofallthedifferencesandknowswhichcardiswhichsotheycanaccess
onlytheirauthorizedaccounts.
3.2.2DebitCards
DBBListhemarketleaderinDebitCards.AllDBBLdebitcardsgivesunlimitedandfree
accesstoallDBBLATMsandPOSnationwide.Therearenotransactionsorhiddencosts
associatedwithDBBLcardsandaccounts.Bydefault,whenopeningaDBBLaccount,all
clientswillreceivetheDBBLNexusClassiccard.
Adebitcardismoreadvancedthanacreditcard.DBBLDebitcardsalsohavemorefeatures
thancreditcardsandarefullyrecognizedbyVisaandMasterCard.DBBLDebitcardsare
alsomoresecure,convenientandcheaperthananycreditcardordebitcardinthemarket.
Debitcardscanwithdrawmoneyfromraccountdirectlywhileacreditcardhastoissuea
'loan'.
