1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1

Definition of Open Source Software

Meaning of Open Sources Software Open source software (OSS) is defined as
computer software for which the source code and certain other rights normally
reserved for copyright holders are provided under a software license that meets the
Open Source Definition or that is in the public domain. This permits users to use,
change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified
forms.

1.2

Definition of Hardware
Meaning of Hardware A computer's hardware consists of the physical components
necessary to operate and interact with a computer. Since a computer's primary
language is binary, devices are necessary to convert our input into that language. The
binary code coming out of the computer must also be translated into something
usable for the operator.

1.3

Definition of Software
Software is a general term used to describe a collection of computer programs,
procedures and documentation that perform some tasks on a computer system.
Software includes websites, programs, etc. that are coded by programming
languages.

2.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEM

2.1

Meaning of Open Source Operating System

An open source (OS) operating system is a set of programs that schedule tasks,
allocates storage and presents a default interface to the user between applications
where as this OS is free, user has the right to use, modify and redistribute the
software for better interoperability.

2.2

Examples of Open Source Operating System

2.2.1
FreeBSD is a free Unix-like operating system
descended from Research Unix via the Berkeley
Software Distribution (BSD). Although for legal
reasons FreeBSD cannot use the Unix trademark, it
is a direct descendant of BSD, which was
historically also called "BSD Unix" or "Berkeley Unix." The first version of
FreeBSD was released in 1993, and today FreeBSD is the most widely used opensource BSD distribution, accounting for more than three-quarters of all installed
systems running open-source BSD derivatives. The latest version is 10.1. It release
on 14 November 2014.
2.2.2
The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to
develop and maintain an open source HTTP server
for modern operating systems including UNIX and
Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide
a secure, efficient and extensible server that
provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP standards. The latest version
is 2.4.9. It is release on 17 March 2014.

3.0 THE LATEST OPEN SOURCE APPLICATION SOFTWARE

3.1

Meaning of Open Source Application Software

Open Source Application Software (also called as end-user programs) includes
database programs, word processors, and spreadsheets where as its free to use,
change, and improve the software, and to redistribute it in modified or unmodified
forms.

3.2

Examples of Open Source Application Software

3.2.1
Blender is a professional free and open-source
3D computer graphics software product used
for creating animated films, visual effects, art,
3D printed models, interactive 3D applications
and video games. Blender's features include 3D
modelling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster
graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle
simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, camera
tracking, rendering, video editing and compositing. Latest Released date 20
January 2015.
3.2.2
Mozilla Firefox (known simply as Firefox)
is a free and open-source web browser
developed for Windows, OS X, and Linux,
with a mobile version for Android, by the
Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the
Mozilla Corporation. Firefox uses the
Gecko layout engine to render web pages,
which implements current and anticipated web standards. The latest version is 30.0.
It is release on 26 June 2014.

5.0 PERVASIVE COMPUTING

5.1

Meaning Of Pervasive Computing

Pervasive computing is an emerging trend associated with embedding
microprocessors in day-to-day objects, allowing them to communicate information. It
is also known as ubiquitous computing.

5.2

Examples Of Pervasive Computing

5.2.1
Sony Smart Watch 2

Sony Smart Watch 2, also known as SW2, is a wearable device launched in late
September 2013. The SW2 supports working together with any Android 4.0 (and
higher) smartphone, unlike Samsung's competing Galaxy Gear smart watch, which
only works with a few of Samsung's own Galaxy handsets. The watch features an
aluminium body and comes with the option of a silicone or metal wristband, but can
be used with any 24mm wristband. It is 1.65 inches tall by 1.61 inches wide and 0.35
inch thick and weighs 0.8 ounces and sports a transflective LCD screen with a
220x176 resolution. The SW2 connects to the smartphone using Bluetooth, and
supports NFC for easy pairing. It is rated IP57 so it can be submersed in water up to a
metre for 30 minutes.

5.2.2
Google Glass

Google Glass is a type of wearable technology with an optical head-mounted display

(OHMD). It was developed by Google with the mission of producing a mass-market

ubiquitous computer. Google Glass displays information in a smartphone-like handsfree format. Wearers communicate with the Internet via natural language voice
commands. Google started selling Google Glass in the US on April 15, 2014 for a
limited period for $1500, before it became available to the public on May 15, 2014
for the same price. Before that users were required to receive invitations before they
could try Google Glass.

6.0 CONCLUSION
As the conclusion, I think open source software have many advantages and important to
everyday person today, because we can have software that help to full fill our daily task.
Besides, the Development in ICT and Pervasive Computing bring us more benefit to our
life because we can use the devices to complete our tasks easily and faster.
