Our Purpose...
To reach people with the love of Jesus Christ, provide a safe and
supportive environment, proclaim the standards of Gods truth,
duplicate the Christian life in others, and celebrate the majesty
and works of Our Great God.

New to Salem Heights?

Welcome! We are glad youre here! We invite
you to seek out the folks wearing the Ask Me
badge. Through them you will find information
about the ministries of Salem Heights Church
and how to become involved. Please fill out a
Visitor Card and drop it in one of the offering
boxes as you leave or scan this code to go directly to our website
and fill out a visitor card. We have an excellent nursery and
programs for children newborn through high school. Any of the
ushers will be happy to direct you to the proper classroom. If
you feel more comfortable having your infant with you during
the service, the last row in the Auditorium will be reserved for
parents with small children. There is a private room for nursing
mothers across the hall from the Auditorium with a rocking chair,
changing table and portable crib. For your convenience, it also
includes a monitor to enable you to still hear and view the
service.

Giving Update
THE MINISTRY OF SALEM HEIGHTS CHURCH
The ministry of Salem Heights Church is funded entirely by the
generous giving of Gods people. You will notice that we do not
pass the offering plate; however, there are offering boxes in the
back of the auditorium. We have done this so no one gives out
of compulsion. We believe from the Word of God that the Spirit
of God will lead people towards giving back to God of their first
fruits. ...God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7) and we know
He blesses those who take His Word seriously in every regard.
Thank you for prayerfully supporting Salem Heights financially as
we desire to reach the lost and disciple the Saints.

A Couple of Questions

Presented by
Pastor Justin Greene
February 1, 2015

In a room decorated for an Albanian funeral, our

missionary to Albania, Ian Loring, delivered a
powerful Good Friday message about Christs great
sacrificial death. Afterward, he invited everyone to
come back on Sunday to observe the third day
ritual. In Albanian culture, friends return three days
after a funeral to sit with the family, drink bitter
coffee, and remember the one who has died. More
than three hundred people filled the room that
Easter Sunday. Ian preached about the not quite
empty tomb, observing that Christs empty grave
clothes still bore His shape, but the napkin, which
had been wrapped around His head, was placed

away from the other grave clothes, folded. To Ians

congregation, that minor detail held great meaning
and promise. In Albania, when a person has finished
a meal and prepares to leave the table, he
crumples up his napkin to indicate that he is finished.
But if, instead, he leaves his napkin folded, it is a sign
that he plans to come back. The application was
obvious to the Albanians. Jesus is coming back!
The second coming of Christ is a central theme of
much of the Bible, and it is one of the best-attested
promises in all of Scripture. Christians can rest in the
sure conviction that just as Jesus came to earth the
first time, so He will return at the conclusion of the
Great Tribulation.1

FIVE QUESTIONS

Why take extra time to talk about the Kingdom here

(Luke 3)?

It is important to understand the mindset of the

original hearers, to understand different views and
to understand what is at stake as we move forward.

What are the three major views of the millennium (see

The last living apostle grew in his anticipation

Arent we talking about a few obscure references in

the Bible?

No 22% (=1845) of all prophetic verses refer to

the second coming (see insert).

Isnt the Kingdom also spiritual?

Yes However, Christs teaching on this does not

replace our anticipation of a literal kingdom It
amplifies it!

Three Views of the Millennial Kingdom

Amillennial
Amillennialists maintain that there will be no future, literal,
earthly, one-thousand-year reign of Christ, but that the Kingdom
is spiritual in nature and is presently fulfilled as Christ reigns in
heaven and in the hearts of His people. The one-thousand-year
time frame is understood as symbolic of a long period of time
during the current age.

Postmillennial
This view teaches that Christ will return to earth after the
Millennium, hence post. The millennial kingdom is not a literal
thousand years but a golden age that the church will usher in by
the preaching of the gospel during this present age. The golden
age will arrive gradually as the gospel spreads throughout the
earth, until the whole world is eventually Christianized. The
Millennium will grow on earth as Christians exercise more and
more influence over the affairs of this planet. Ultimately, the
gospel will prevail, and the earth will become a better world,
after which time Christ will appear to usher in eternity.

Premillennial
This view holds that Christ will return to earth at His second
coming and will usher in a literal one-thousand-year earthly
reign. For premillennialists, the Millennium is still to come.

Can We Be Sure That Jesus Is Coming Back?

Scriptural Statistics on the Certainty of Jesus Second Coming
1. Jesus return is explicitly referred to 1,845 times in the Bible 1,527 times in the OT and 318 times in the NT (for example:
Zech 14:3-4; 2 Thess 1:7).
2. Out of the New Testaments 260 chapters, there are 318
references to the Second Coming. On average, then, the
Second Coming is referred to more than once a chapter.
3. Jesus Second Coming is mentioned eight times for every
reference to His first coming.
4. For every mention of the atonement in the Bible, there are
two references to the Second Coming.
5. Enoch, who lived only seven generations after Adam and is
considered the first prophet of the Bible, prophesied about
the Second Coming (Jude 14). Therefore, the first prophecy
of the Bible concerns the Second Coming.
6. The final prophecy of the Bible deals with the Second Coming
(Rev 22:20).

10. Angels believe and testify that Jesus is coming back. When
Jesus ascended to heaven, angels stated that He would
return just as He left (Acts 1:9-11).1
11. In Scripture, 62 (94 percent) out of 66 books contain
predictive information (Ruth, Song of Solomon, Philemon,
and 3 John are the exceptions).
12. In the Bible, 27 percent (8352) of all verses (31,124) refer to
prophetic issues.
13. In Gods Word, 22 percent (1845) of all prophetic verses
(8352) refer to Christs second coming.
14. All nine authors of the NT mention Christs second coming.
15. Next to the subject of faith/salvation, the theme of Christs
second coming is most prominent in the NT.
16. Only three out of 27 NT books do not mention Christs
second advent (Philemon, 2 John, and 3 John).
17. Of the approximately 333 specific biblical prophecies dealing
with Christs two advents, one-third deal with His first
coming and two-thirds deal with His second coming.2

7. In Revelation we hear Jesus say, I come quickly or I will

come like a thief seven times - three times in the final
chapter (2:16; 3:3; 11; 16:15; 22:7; 12, 20).
8. People are exhorted over fifty times to be ready for the
return of Jesus (for instance: Luke 12:35-36; Rom 13:11-14).
9. Jesus Christ Himself refers to His return twenty-one times
(for example: Matt 24:2-30; 25:31; John 14:3; 21:2-23).
