Every Struggling Child in Cameroon Deserves an Education

Action For Hope is raising $100,000 to build a boarding school in Cameroon. The country is
currently crippled by the effects of poverty seeping into the education system. Poor children will
never find their way into a classroom unless something changes. Cameroon offers free public
education yet here is a major roadblock preventing it from running well. Poor funding from the
government requires schools to demand a bribe from families to put their children into a
classroom.
We will provide a free and quality education to every child who walks through our doors. Girls will
be welcome and not be forced to work the streets for their education funds. A boarding school
cuts down on the lengthy distances keeping thousands of students from attending classes. Our
students will graduate with the oppurtunity to chose their career path. Chosing a career path is a
luxury many of us take for granted.
The Problem:
Cameroons education system is not effective in preparing students for the competitive global
economy. Less than 50% of children in rural areas attend primary school. Statistics vary but 1/3 of
the country is said to be illiterate. 46% of kids drop out after primary school and only 1% continue
all the way to college. 70% of Cameroons people are unemployed or underemployed.
In rural parts of Cameroon, schools dont have any full time staff or any staff at all. If you live
outside of a major city your education options are limited. Violence from Nigerias Boko Haram is
spilling over into Cameroon and intimidating children from attending schools. Education needs to
be protected on multiple fronts.
Children in Cameroon may missout on their education due to a tornado of factors. They need to
be in an environment that understands their challenges. Cameroon is plagued with healthcare
challenges. Malaria, Schistosomiasis, Yellow Fever, HIV, AIDS, and more are rampant throughout the
population. Half of the population of Cameroon is under 20 years old because they are losing their
parents to disease.
We need to create a school that focuses on educating poor and orphaned children. The state
school system can not handle this challenge.
Our Mission:
Action For Hope is constructing a free boarding school to serve orphaned and poor children in
critical need of a safe learning environment. Children from all walks of life will be able to receive
free schooling. with a safe place to sleep. We are the lifeline for the struggling and orphaned
children in Cameroon. Our primary focus is bringing education to Cameroons 330,000 orphans.
Out of 1,200,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Cameroon in 2010, 300,000(25%) were AIDS
orphans. Orphans and the number of children orphaned by AIDS has increased dramatically from
13,000 in 1995 to 304,000 in 2010. By 2020, this number is projected to rise to 350,000.These
deaths profoundly affect families, which often are split up and left without any means of support.

Similarly, the death of many people in their prime working years hamper the economy. Businesses are
adversely affected due to the need to recruit and train new staff. Health and social service systems
suffer from the loss of health workers, teachers, and other skilled workers. Orphans and vulnerable
children due to HIV/AIDS are a major public health problem in Cameroon as the HIV prevalence
continues its relentless increase with 141 new infections per day. - The National Institute of Health

that begain in XXXX. Here we will meet the multiple challenges plaguing poor children from no
teachers, deceased parents, all the way to healthcare, and to hunger.
Our Staff:
The inspiration and vision for Action for Hope came from a Cameroonian midwife, Maria Ngafa
who adopted and successfully raised 11 orphans beside her biological children. Ngafa served her
community in different capacities, delivering babies in her home, providing food, shelter, medical
care, and financial support to all those in need in her community. Although she devoted much of
her personal life to helping children, she wanted to take further action instilling hope for other
innocent children lacking basic needs, starving and dying in Africa and around the world. She
realized that her dream would be a massive endeavor and that she would need help providing
safety, health, education and hope for a brighter future for all the children. As a result, Action for
Hope was founded in 2008 to raise awareness of the many aspects of orphans and other
impoverished children's basic needs in order to succeed. And, to raise funds to provide those
needs and support programs to assist impoverished children and families around the world.
