Dear friends of Limalama Natural System:

2014 has arrived and with it, new goals to make, new dreams to live
and new projects to be carried out.
I think it is a good time to stop along the way and look back for a few
seconds the path already taken; we also look forward to observe and
confirm that we are on the right path, a path full of future, dreams,
hard work and great joys.
Natural System has not stopped around this time of growth,
overcoming problems that have been found along the way and fighting
to be better every day. It's time to thank every one of the teachers
who trust their work in this organization and every effort to become
better every day.

the founder of Limalama, a

was born on July 2, 1931 in

Limalama Natural System

is a project over ten years
ago, the goal, was to give
stability,
formation,
structure and basis to

brought from Santa Cruz
(CA), firsthand from the
founder of the system, Mr.
Tino Tuiolosega.
We tried in the beginning,
to reflect this idea in the
first Spanish Federation of

that
was

colleagues who believed in

this project, was founded
the Federation, of which
we are currently founding

we do not share the same

The second step, was to

give maximum coverage to
the system and teachers,
for it, was necessary to
structure a technical and
pedagogical basis. As the
program we received was
unprepared, It took several

it was going and what

this, we created a website
where you can access to all

regarding the history of
Limalama in general.
In the website, we offer all

My name is Sandra, I
began to train Limalama at
the age of 6 years old, Ive
always wanted to follow
the steps of my professor,
and nowadays I am the
instructor
of
children
groups.
Starting this new path in
my sports career, has
allowed me to grow, learn
and improve as a person, it
has also allowed me to
observe, study and look at
the childrens lifestyle in
the nowadays and the one
from time ago.
The children used to go
out to the streets to play
with their friends until late,
they would enroll to every
after school activities as
much as they could, they
made the most of their time
socializing and getting
along with friends, this
caused the children had a
good
physical
development. Today they
just want to be at home
playing videogames or
using the computer, there
are less children that
practice a sport and health
issues have arisen due to
this cause, they dont
socialize with their friends
as they used to, now they

prefer to do it through
social media, which make
the children worse in
reading,
writing
and
speaking, increases school
failure,
violence
and
harassment.
The practice of any martial
art helps the children in
concentration,
creating
habits that help in their
studies;
respect
and
education, making them
more
sympathetic
to
others, creating positive
attitudes
towards
the
society; confidence and
self-assurance,
making
them feel capable to face
any day to day situation
and fitness, giving their

bodies the flexibility and

encouragement that will
improve their physical
condition, reflexes and
motor-skills that favor their
development.
When
an
instructor
devotes his time to teach
this beautiful art, the best
reward that can get from
his students is looking at
the
gradual
progress
theyre getting, improving
and achieving their goals,
but specially looking at
them enjoying what theyre
doing.

DEFENSE AGAINST TWO PUNCHES

*CONCEPTS: With the right training a

devastating effectiveness can be achieved
to smash bones or vital points. You can
throw a punch with the fists, inner or outer
side of the hand, fingers, elbows, knees,
feet, forearms, head etc.

The effect of a strike to a vital point can be

achieved in two different ways:
A.
Localizing exactly where
the vital point is, for which strength wont
be needed.
B.
Punching hard to the
closest spot to the vital point. In this way,
the shockwave will affect indirectly. The
latter is the most common in self defense.

1.- The aggressor stands in front of us

with the intention to attack us with two
front punches.

26

2.- When the aggressor throws the first

punch, we anticipate a knitting deflection
(typical deflection of Limalama against two
direct punches) and move towards his
exterior angle of 45.

3.- The displacement continues until being in

a 90 angle facing the aggressor as we
execute the defense of the second punch.

4.- The arm that is used to deflect the punch

stays in the position to execute the first
attack and the leg controls the aggressors
leg causing him to lose balance.

27

5.- We wrap his arm with our attacking arm,

creating a second control that gives us
double security against the possibility of
another attack from the aggressor.

6.- Low kick to knee joint, causing the aggressor to fall.

28

7.- Continuation of the attack with knee strike

to his spine.

8.-The attack follows up with control of the

neck and shoulder, causing rupture of
cervical bones. (Performing this movement is
not advised due to high risk injury that it can
lead to).

9.- The aggressor ends

submission on the floor.

I was born December 19, 1975, in

Acapulco, Guerrero. At the age of 8, I
started my training in the martial arts; I
started with Karate Do achieving green

for a year, looking for a martial art that
was according to my physical abilities.
Finally, in 1988, I started my studies in
Tae Kwon Do achieving black belt first
Dan in the years 1990 to 1994.
Because my studies and responsibilities

The organization that I lead today is

Dragones Mayas and we are united to the
international organization Natural System
Lima Lama of Spain, in which the Grand
Master Tino, in adulthood, taught an
updated Lima Lama. Therefore, together,
with the masters of Spain Alberto Lopez
and Alfredo Lopez, We have agreed and
joined in the teaching and dissemination of
Lima Lama.

I represent Natural System in Cancun,

Mexico in Alliance with Dragones Mayas. I
am retaking my Tae Kwon Do studies, that
for reasons already mentioned, I paused.

It is FUNNY how our world transforms.

Some decades ago when I started
learning martial arts in the city where I
live (Len, Guanajuato, MEXICO) there
were
only
a
few
martial
arts
associations, these were: Shaolin Kung
Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate Do, Judo,
Boxing (both Boxing and Wrestling were
disciplines only for noble people
Wrestling or LIMA). As years passed by
and the arrival of teachers to the
Mexican capital we learned different
styles of Karate do, new associations of
Tae kwon do were created (they still
exist, sadly because their teachers are
not inscribed, they are not even black
belt, many of them are only poomse, no
certification or preparation at all),
Capoeira also had a boom after the Only

PREPARATION, AT ALL!
Here in Mexico we call it
chile de todos los moles
(pepper of every sauce,
meaning that they are
everywhere
to
call
everyones
attention).
Personally, I prefer to train
and prepare myself on a
daily basis, not only
fighting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
or Muay Thai, Judo, Boxing

(English or American style)

or any other martial art, but
I look for the teaching of
those martial arts. That
distinguishing
approach
that makes us different
from the others. As my
master and teacher of
American Kenpo said to
me once:

There are exceptional black

belts, but very few good
teachers. Which one are
you? Which one do you
want to become?
My master of Hwa rang do,
Sabum ni Victor Garca
Hernandez told me once
while practicing in his
office: The important thing
of what we do here is to
become more and more
professional,
prepare
yourself gordo (friendly way

of calling me chubby, and

not, Im not chubby, not
anymore...), because there
are plenty outside ,but only
organization
and
preparation
makes
us
different.
The old man was right. It
has been three decades
since I practice martial arts,
Ive seen hundreds of
partners, schools, teachers,
instructors,
pseudoinstructors and many other

passing by and a lot of them

were good, some were
excellent, other just were.
I LOVE what I want, and I
want this to become a
professional training, and
thats why I prepare myself.
What about you?

BECAUSE I WANT TO BE A PROFESSIONAL

MARTIAL ART TRAINER!!!!!

Before going deeper into the topic, it is of my interest to mention some of the benefits of a
good warm up:

Improves performance
Reduces the chance of injury
Improves concentration
Improves coordination and balance

It is normal that when we start training something new or when we become experts, we
forget about the importance of a good warm up, thats why I consider important to mention
these steps:

A.

Warm up:
a) Joint movement
b) Rising Heart Rate
c) Stretching and Elasticity
d) Explosive activation exercises

Warm up
The intention of the warm up is to rise the
bodys temperature and your heart rate as
well as wake up the muscle nerves and
mobilize the joints in order to prepare your
body for the training session.

Its true that in a real situation we wont

have time to warm up, but, isnt it the
objective of training to prepare us for these
kind of situations?

37

Even if it is for a short period of time it is

important to try to achieve the 4 steps of
warm up:

as jogging and raising the knees sideways.

Its common to swap step a) with step b) or
even mixing them. We just need to
consider not doing forced movements in
this stage.

a.Joint movement.
c) Stretching and Elasticity

A good advice for this stage is doing it in

an orderly manner; in other words, carry on
a sequence starting with the head to toes
and vice versa. This advice will help not to
forget any part of the body and at the same
time send the signs of order and
concentration to the brain. In the majority
of my classes I usually start with my
students from the head towards the feet
(head, upper back, shoulders, elbows,
wrists, waist, lower back, hips, knees,
ankles).

b.Rising the heart rate

This stage consists of increasing the blood
flow to the muscles, rising the bodys
temperature and heart rate. This is possible
when you work the group of large muscles
(chest,
back,
legs)
with
repetitive
movements. My preference here is jogging
with turns to lateral movements, lifting
knees up, taking the ankles to the bottom

38

In this stage is important to get the best

stretching of the muscles and the
ligaments so the movements are as free as
possible, this is important because it will

improve your performance and will ease

your movements. Besides it is considered
to be one of the most important steps to
avoid injuries.
In concordance with step a) Joint
movement, it is advised to have an order
while you stretch. With my students I
always consider the stretching of legs no
matter the planned training session. An
example of a stretching sequence that we
follow
is:
hamstrings,
quadriceps,
abductors and calves.

d. Explosive activation exercises

This is the funniest part of the warm up,
yes thats it! pushups, squats, jumping
jacks, jumps with knee elevation and so on.
During
this
stage
we
work
on
strengthening the muscles gradually. Its
important not to overdo in this stage since
it is still part of the warm up. If you overdo,
then you cant consider it part of the warm
up and it would become in a different stage
of the training. One of the exercises that I
particularly enjoy in this stage is a
sequence of: abdominals followed by
pushups ending with jumping squats,
keeping the same pace along all the
repetitions.
The warm up is different depending the
situation, the more demanding the final
activity is, the longer the warm up should
be. An advice is to have predefined warm
up exercises for different situations, this
could be really useful for unexpected times
or when you dont have much time to warm

up: tournaments, grade

short training and others.

examinations,

Lima Lama professors have the training

and extensive knowledge of these steps, if
you have any query or need advice in your
warm up get in touch with any of them and
ask for further guidance.

(Germany) and London (UK),

added to the one in Madrid
(Spain) makes the biggest
Limalama organization in
Europe.

The
first
weekend
of
February of 2014 we had the
opportunity to travel to the
city of Berlin, the capital of
Germany, where the German
Delegation
of
our
organization is found and
ruled by Sergio Rivera
Hernndez.
We
travelled
there
to
evaluate and
lead
the
change of degree exams as
well as give a seminar to get
better at their training and
provide tips and keys in
order to improve Santa
Cruzs Limalama system.
This event is the first of
many programmed activities
during 2014. I must say
thatwe were nervous

because it was the first time

establishing Limalama in a
permanent way in Europe
(outside
Spain)
and
spreading this wonderful
sport through the whole
continent.
Luckily we also counted on
Mauro, our representative
and
direct
collaborator
inside UKs organization,
whose presence gave the
event more weight and
making it a fully European
meeting.
Therefore, we are proud to
announce that Limalama
Natural System has already
two more headquarters in
Europe, with their major
academies
in
Berlin

We
cannot
forget
our
brothers on the other side of
the ocean, whose work is
unquestionable and thanks
to them we also have
presence in the states of
Guanajuato,
Cancun,
Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, etc.
All of them together make
bigger this great martial art.
But lets stay focused:
We were very proud to see
how the students managed
fluently and technically the
Santa Cruz program, despite
the short time the school
has being working on it. In
fact, the exams were highly
technical for each degree
and you could feel the
commitment
towards
learning.
During
the
evaluation
their
faces
showed the fatigue bit by bit
but nevertheless they found
the strength to demonstrate
their courage.

40

The exams continued with

normality and left us very
satisfied with the great work
displayed by Master Sergio
and his students. He even
took the exam to graduate
himself in the first degree of
black belt.
Extremely technical and
perfectionist in developing
the technics, I can say we
have more than a worthy
representative
in
the
German country. Flawless in
his exam presentation, he
showed us how anything is
attainable with hard work
and good training. He is an
example for their students
and it was an honor to
graduate him.

After the graduation and

losing no time, we moved
on to the first Limalama
European Meeting. This
seminar had a total duration
of 4 hours and was focused
in understanding the basics
of the Santa Cruz system
when training. In order to
demonstrate these concepts

all the showed technics are

included in the technical
programme.
We
had
also
two
representatives
of
two
related martial arts such as
Kempo and Kajukembo, the
first is master 4th dan and
the second is black belt,
great and upright people
who shared with us their
questions and similarities
with the roots of our
discipline.
A lot of information was
treated and despite the
language barrier we had the

feeling
that
the
main
principles
were
clearly
transmitted
and
fully
understood.
Then
the
graduations
came,
an
intimate and ceremonial,
characteristic
act
in
Limalama. Emotion, pride
and satisfaction were some
of
the
feelings
that
surrounded us in that
moment.
Personally I think that this
meeting
has
helped
Limalama
to
become
established and therefore
Natural System in Europe.
This is just the beginning,
we are confident about the
year 2014 bringing strength
to Limalama in Europe,
although I already think is
strong enough.
Thanks to all people who
has made possible this
seminar and to everyone
who
assisted
and
collaborated. We return with
new friends, affection and
the feeling that we are right
path.
