GUIDELINES FOR INDIVIDUAL Assignment (10%)

Topic: Individual Ethics Reflection

1. This assignment is aimed to link your personal values and ethical convictions with
your potential role towards the practice of business ethics within your present or
future corporate environment.
2. The assignment should consist of the following components;
a. Reflection of your personal values and ethical convictions and how they were
shaped.
b. Identify at least 1 (it can be more) ethical issue/area that mostly close to your
heart that you would support and contribute to throughout your life including in
your present or future organisation. You should be able to link the choice of this
ethical issue/area to your reflection of personal values and ethical convictions.
c. Survey of literature on the various bad practices and/or best practices by
corporations/organisations in the issue/area that you have chosen. In your
discussion of the bad and best practices of corporations/organisations,
elaborate on the lessons that can be learnt in terms of the impact and importance
of business ethics.
d. Finally, propose an ethics programmes/initiatives that you would want to
introduce as part of your commitment to business ethics in your present or future
organization. You should elaborate in detail how your proposed
programmes/initiatives will be implemented, the objectives and targets, the impact
of such programmes/initiatives to the target groups, and the potential
benefits/costs of the programmes/initiatives to your organization.
e. Wherever possible, try to link the discussion in the assignment to the
theories/concepts/framework we discuss in the class.
3. You must submit the sofcopy of this individual assignment in MS Word
format to my e-mail address (mohdnizam@iium.edu.my) by the end of Week
10 for grading. Please do not submit the printed copy of the assignment.
4. The assignment should be type written with a font size of 12 (Times Roman) and with
a line spacing of 1.5.
5. The length of the assignment should be between 8 to 10 pages excluding the cover
page, table of contents, supporting tables/graphs/charts, references and appendix.
Sources of all tables, graphs and charts should be indicated.
6. PLAGIARISM: This refers to the use of unauthorized books, notes, articles or
presenting the work of somebody as ones own work. This is a very serious offence.

The punishment for plagiarism will be a grade of F in the course. Further action will be
taken if deemed necessary. Please quote all references used.
7. Grading will be based on the following components Contents (reflection of personal values/ethical conviction, bad/best practices on
the ethical issue/area chosen, creativity/impact of the ethics programme)
Linking the discussion with the theory
Presentation (flow of ideas and technical aspects such as tables/graphs/charts,
referencing etc)
