Should human cloning be allowed legally?
Long time ago in the 90s, the possibility to get clones appeared. It started with Dolly, a cloned
sheep, she was the first mammal cloned. Dolly was cloned from an adult sheep cells and was born in
July 5th, 1996 (MacKinnon, 2). This event has changed peoples thoughts of creating life, since the
possibility to clone human beings exists. As Barbara MacKinnon says in her book Human Cloning:
Science, Ethics and Public Policy, until the birth of Dolly, it was generally believed that human
cloning was either science fiction or a far-off future eventuality, not a real possibility. With the
technology they had in that time they were able to clone animals, but with the technology available
nowadays it is also possible to create human beings. But in spite of the fact that human cloning can
help people in many different ways it shouldnt be allowed legally because the social impact it will
have and also because the possible consequences that human cloning may entail.
There exist many people who oppose human cloning because of ethics and possible
consequences, but also there are people who really wants human cloning be legalized. People who
want cloning to be allowed, states that some terminal diseases are going to get cure. For example
conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, heart failure, degenerative joint
disease, and other problems may be made curable if human cloning and its technology are not banned
(Smith). But if human cloning is allowed, it may reduce overall value of human life, and humans life
could be a game just like if you dont like the kid you have you can just create another one and modify
his/her cells to be as you want by cloning the original one (Pros and Cons). In the article published
by the Genetic Science Learning Center, they talk about cloning and they said that the success of
cloning is not good enough, because most embryos fail to develop so most of the cloning process is
still inefficient (Why Clone?). So human cloning has to be banned to avoid social troubles and also to
avoid failure process, human life is not a game.
Cloning must be legalized to discover some things about evolution, and we can revive some
extinct species as dinosaurs, also a dead pet (Why Clone?). Some scientist says that human cloning
must be legalized because then they can do researches and probably they would found the cure for
some diseases. As scientist can discover many things about evolution through clones, they have not
realized the costs of that. Jewish people are against human cloning because they said that it is going
against the natural procreation process (Esenberg). If scientists show to world that God is not the only
one capable to create human life, some people will be really mad.
On the other hand , people is not really sure about the technology available now and if people
start making clones as baking cakes, there is the possibility to get clones as Dolly that get age faster
and then die, so those clones wouldnt be useful for medicine. Clones would age faster Because an
older cell is often being used to create a human clone, there is the possibility that this imprinted age

could be placed on the growing embryo (Pros and Cons). There are some risks that cloning has as
the aspect that even clones can have terminal diseases what makes them no useful in medicine. Even
though there is people that insist that human cloning is the better option to cure terminal diseases,
because clones can provide modified organs for people who need transplants, and in the process of
creating the clone his/her cells can be modified to have healthy organs (Smith). The technology we
have now must be improved to use cloning in a good way, for example if they can make a machine or
something to clone just the organs that people need to be cure from terminal diseases without creating
a clone, medicine can improve faster.
Human cloning can help infertility problems, there exist many couples that want to have
children but they cant, so human cloning will help them with infertility treatments. Already there are
treatments for infertility but those are not successful at all just 10% of those treatments have success
and couples suffer physical and emotional for the small possibility of have children (Smith). That is
not the only thing that human cloning can do, also clones can be used to test new products before
launching them, then the risk of allergic reaction in people reduces. Human cloning could fall in
wrong hands and then we are exposed to the creation of worst diseases. Also the sense of individuality
would be lost, because clones are exactly twins of someone else no matter the age they have, genetic
material will be lost too and so the evolution can be affected (Pros and Cons). Ethically cloning
wouldnt be legalized because when clones born they become human beings and human rights applied
to them, so using clones for testing products or for researches go against human rights (MacKinnon).
In conclusion there are some good reasons to allow human cloning but peoples behavior is the
cause to ban cloning. People can use clones for their own interest no matter if they kill more people.
Clones are useful in medicine giving new opportunities to people with terminal diseases, even though,
social problems would appear. Cloning goes against natural process of procreation, so humans
consider being all different from each other would be a fake statement, there would be clones of
anybody. Human rights will be broken if clones are used to test products or to be analyzed to discover
evolution things.
