LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM INSTALLATION

OUTLINE SPECIFICATIONS

SECTION 1: THE SCOPE OF WORKS:


The work shall be carried out in compliance with Electricity and Water
Authority (EWA) regulations, Building work specifications issued by Ministry
of Housing, IEE regulations, British standards, and other local statutory
regulation.
The work under this division of the specifications, provide all materials and
equipment and perform all the work necessary for the complete execution of
all electrical works as shown on the electrical drawings and on the general
construction drawings, as herein specified and which without excluding the
generality of the foregoing, shall include but not limited to the following
principal items of work.

Lightning Protection Installation

B.

Site coordination: exact location shall be coordinated at site.


SECTION 2 : BASIC MATERIALS AND METHODS.

EARTHING
Earthing shall be provided as per Electricity and Water Authority (EWA)
regulations of Building columns shall be linked to main earth using 16 mm
PVC insulated wire (minimum). The combined earth resistance shall not
exceed One (1) Ohm.
LIGHTNING PROTECTION
Complete supply & installation, testing and commissioning for lightning
protection for the building, The system shall consist of air termination
network, down conductors, etc. The Lightning Protection System shall be of
EARLY STREAMER EMISSION (ESE) LIGHTNING PROTECTION
SYSTEM.

. An ESE lightning protection system installation consists of the following


interconnected parts
(a) One or more ESE air terminals
(b) Mast and mounting systems - as required based on level of protection desired.
(c) Bonding conductors - as required based on level of protection.
(d) Ground system Single grid to loop conductor system.
(e) Equipotential Bonding.
(f) Transient Voltage Surge Suppression.

1. The complete lightning protection shall be fully tested for ground


resistance and continuity , the results shall be recorded.
2. Installation of equipment shall be done under the direct supervision of a
manufacturers certified installer.
3. The ground resistance of the completed system shall be measured: 10
ohms or less. (or as per EWA requirements)
FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SAFETY
Workmanship and Materials: Good workmanship and proper materials shall
be used.
All equipment shall be constructed, installed and protected, and shall be capable
of being maintained, inspected and tested, so as to prevent danger.

All conductors shall either:


Be insulated or uninsulated and where necessary further effectively
protected
Be so placed and safeguarded, as to prevent danger.
Every electrical joint and connection shall be of proper construction as regards to
strength and protection.
