MEMORANDUM

January 19, 2010

TO: All Employees

FROM: Larry Nevins

I am pleased to announce the formation of the Digital Technology Services Group. Mike
McGinniss, Vice President of Emerging Technologies, will move into the newly created
role of Senior Vice President of Digital Technology Services, reporting to me. The group
will combine the Emerging Technologies Group (ETG) with some of the resources from
the Internet Development Group (IDG), and is charged with providing strategic
technology solutions across HarperCollins and supporting our global digital initiatives.
The team will work with Chief Digital Officer Charlie Redmayne to develop new
technologies that align with our digital strategy, and will continue to partner with
Corporate IT to address the ever-changing digital technology needs of business.

Examples of projects already underway include converting and packaging eBooks and
enhanced eBooks for delivery to mobile platforms like the iPhone, Blackberry and
Android phones; syndicating author and book-related content (video and audio assets) to
author sites, consumer sites, HarperCollins.com, booksellers and other partners.

The Digital Technology Services Group will consist of the following service lines and
leadership roles:

Emerging Technologies Group – ETG will continue to create digital publishing

technologies and services for our authors and consumers such as mobile phone
applications. In addition, they will evaluate and improve existing capabilities such as
upgrading DAM to handle more audio/video capabilities, enabling us to build new and
better book and author products. Rich Rothstein, Vice President of Emerging
Technologies and Steve Lapierre, Director of Emerging Technology Development, will
remain focused on this area.

Digital Technology Architecture and Development – The Digital Technology

Architecture and Development team will build the products and services required by an
increasingly digital marketplace, including delivering new websites for online consumer
and author offerings, and improving our digital supply chain systems so that we can work
better with digital partners like Symtio and Libre Digital. Mike Yacullo, Senior
Application Architect, will move into the newly created role of Senior Manager of Digital
Technology Development, with Sean Unruh, Chris Andreotti and Brian Sowers reporting
to him.

Project Management and Business Process Design – The Project Management and
Business Process Design team will define and manage implementation of new business
processes and work with external vendors to integrate functionality into HarperCollins
products and content. Daryl Lubin, Senior Director of Digital Project Management and
Business Architecture, will lead this team consisting of Laura Kobiashvili and Christina
Cillo. Christina has served as a consultant to the company, most recently as project
manager of the very successful teen Inkpop site. Please join me in welcoming Christina
to the team.

Digital Technology Operations – The Digital Technology Operations team will ensure
ongoing operational excellence for our new digital products. Greg Mucci will join
HarperCollins full time in the newly created position of Director of Digital Technology
Operations. Greg has served as a consultant for the past year, and helped manage the
transition of our Internet platform to Dow Jones. He will also be responsible for
managing third-party support resources and the Quality Assurance team including Tejal
Patel. Please join me in welcoming Greg to the team.
