What is PDF
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a document format for making documents that
will appear identical on all computers.

How to create PDFs

Printing
The most common way of creating PDF documents is installing a virtual printer and
simply print to it from the document you want to convert. This will make it possible to
create a PDF version of anything that you can print. See detailed instructions below.

There are several free options that will make this possible. Most popular are:
• CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com) – see detailed instructions below
• PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com)

Apple MacOS X computers already come with this technology preinstalled. See here

Saving
Some software applications make it possible to save directly to PDF. If you have
Word 2007, you can download a free Add-in from this website http://bit.ly/6i8LCj and
then simply choose PDF as your format on Save As.

Online Services
If none of these options above is available, you can use an online service to convert
an Office document to PDF. However, in this case, the security of your document
cannot be guaranteed. Two such services are:

Creating PDFs using CutePDF
Installation
1. Download CutePDF from http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/Writer.asp.

2. Run the CuteWriter.exe programme to install it.

2a. Uncheck options to install an optional toolbar – see below.

2b. When asked whether to download PS2PDF converter, click YES.

(NOTE: On Windows Vista and 7, this will require a confirmation.)

Create a PDF using CutePDF
CutePDF install a virtual printer on your machine so converting a document to PDF is
just like printing. Follow these steps:

1. Open the document you want to convert to PDF

2. Go to File > Print (or just type Ctrl-P) and choose CutePDF as your printer.

3. You will be asked to save the file. Give it a clear name, save it in a location you will
remember and then attach it to your email as normal. See picture below:
