Electric LIMO

Whereas: The reserve fund shall be made available to purchase capital goods; and,

Whereas: Students in the College of Engineering are designing an Electric LIMO; and,

Whereas: Students involved with the project have already received materials and aid from
Rockwell Automation, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and the Department of
Public Safety; and,

Whereas: Marquette University received a letter grade of “D-“ on a recent study conducted by
the Sustainable Endowment Institute (SEI), which grades the environmental
friendliness of college campuses in the United States; and,

Whereas: Marquette University received a letter grade of “F” in the transportation category of
the SEI study which stated, “The university has not made public any programs or
practices that encourage or facilitate the use of alternative forms of transportation”;
and,

Whereas: Marquette University has voiced its commitment to become more environmentally
friendly and to promote green awareness; and,

Whereas: An Electric LIMO will demonstrate both MUSG and Marquette University’s
commitment to environmental sustainability; and,

Whereas: The use of an Electric LIMO will greatly reduce fuel and maintenance costs
associated with the LIMO fleet as well as substantially reduce Marquette University’s
carbon footprint; and,

Whereas: The Department of Public Safety has expressed its support for the Electric LIMO
project and plans to use the vehicle as part of its full time fleet upon completion;
and,

Whereas: Risk Management has confirmed that the Electric LIMO will be covered under
Marquette University’s blanket insurance policy; and,

Whereas: The students involved with the Electric LIMO have ensured MUSG of the safety and
plausibility of the vehicle; and,

Whereas: The Electric LIMO may serve as a prototype for an Electric LIMO fleet; and,

Whereas: Financial support for the project is the only major barrier to its successful
completion; and,

Whereas: The Electric LIMO team needs $9,737.50 for items related to the drivetrain as well as
leaf springs, angle irons, and tubing/wiring in order to complete Phase I of the
project; and,

Whereas: Senior Vice President Kliebhan and Provost Shrock have each committed $2,500 in
order to match a $5,000 reserve fund bill for the Electric LIMO project.

Therefore: Let the amount of $5,000 from the MUSG reserve fund be made available to the
Electric LIMO Project for the purchase of materials related to the drivetrain.
