Brief Intro about OYYAL

OYYAL in Classical Tamil means TO ELEVATE. As the name describes

OYAAL strives for the elevation of society and people focusing in Educational in
Rural areas. It works for the empowerment of rural people and students by
making them realize the important of education.
We wanted to see some change in our life so that, that would start reflecting a little
at least, on our society. Before that, "we" so far implies 4 different youngsters from
varied backgrounds, but unified under the team name OYYAL by the common
chord "Social Responsibility and Personal Well-being". (This is written with due
respect to the future group members and taking no credit away from them). This
"we" would grow a lot in the future, even though that is not our primary goal. We
all had a fair amount of exposure to what we plan to do through our team.
Although that experience is not counting in decades, we believe it will really help
in acquiring those decades of experience. We all were a part of some N.G.O's
diversified in their nature, motive and functioning. And now we started our own
Team.
VISION: Work as a catalyst to bring Elevation in Society through Rural
Education.

ORIGIN:
Oyyal was founded by a group of young professionals, with the motive to create an
impact in the environs they live. Before Oyyal, they were working at an individual
level, as a part of different groups involved in social activities, like women
empowerment, adult education, and so on.
Who we are:
Education is both the means as well as the end to a better life; means,
because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end
because it increases one's awareness on a range of issues from
healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights,

and in the process evolve as a better citizen. So we have chosen best

possible stream of improvement as RURAL EDUCATION.
Oyyal will work for the empowerment of society by stressing the importance of
education in the minds of Rural Parents and students.
Areas we work:
Oyyal chose Rural Education as its area of work. At present, the land chosen for
our work are the deep rural villages in Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu, which
stands as one of the educationally backward districts. We are also conducting
Career Guidance Program for X and XII standard students, and thereby
enlightening and encouraging them about the higher education. We firmly believe
in the fact that, educating one person per family can be a seed for the big change in
the whole family, for generations to come. This process will slowly turn out to be a
social changing factor.
Objectives:
Its objective is to empower the society by emphasizing and conveying the
importance of education
to rural people and students.
Oyyal is primarily focused on these areas:

Nourish and grow the knowledge and skill base of the students
Arrange for guest lectures, focusing on career guidance, exam preparation,
and nurturing extracurricular skills
Eliminating drop outs at High school
Enabling students to go for Higher education after High School
Support for maintaining infrastructure
Arrange for temporary teachers, for key subjects

Our Active Programs:

We have been focusing on Class 10 students from two Government schools in rural
areas of Krishnagiri district in Tamilnadu

 Chinnakothur, Krishnagiri district - 635121

Theertham, Krishnagiri district 635121
Till now, we conducted the following programs, in these schools:
1) Educational awareness program
During this program we explain the need of education and its importance to the
students. Studying methods and techniques are explained to them. Screening of
educational videos is followed by a discussion on the video contents. Students are
monitored continuously throughout the year. In the beginning of academic year, we
try to figure out any difficulties the student faces in the classroom and in the
family.
2) Exam awareness program
Fear and anxiety are widely prevalent among the students in these schools. This
program aims at removing them.
Students are trained in these areas:
Preparation for exam, coming up with a time table for
different subjects
Writing exam, which question to answer first, how to
present, and so on
Time management during the exam
Health management tips
3) Career guidance program
We did this program, a day after the final exam. We provide the list of colleges and
course details according their future interests and skills. We have a 1:1 with each
student to find out the each student interests and help them accordingly.
4) Motivation program
The intention of this program is to motivate the students in their studies. We do 1:1
with each student to understand their environs, and identify any issue that
demotivates them in their studies. We work with the teachers and the students, in
providing a solution for the issues. Going forward, we have decided to visit each
and every students house and meet their parents, to know them better. Awareness
about tree plantation, need to preserve our environment, and ways to achieve that
are also given to the students. This motivates the students to see their education is a
larger perspective.

5) Parental awareness program

Parents play a key role in their childrens education. With this in mind, we focus
are creating awareness among the parents. We conducted parents awareness
programs, by inviting them for a group discussion in the schools. In this programs
students and
their village heads also participated. Discussion was focused on these topics:
Impact of committed parent in a student life.
Importance of a parent being role model for their children.
Motivating students to go for higher studies.
