Task 9- Formal Proposal

Title
I have decided on the title RIFT for my Music Magazine. I have chosen the word
Rift as it carries connotations of distortion and being broken- themes which are
touched upon occasionally in the rock music genre, Rift is also sometimes used
instead of the word riff when describing a guitar riff, a particular arrangement
of notes which is common in rock music which would appeal particularly to the
niche market of rock music fans.
Genre
I have decided to do a rock music magazine, focusing mainly on alternative rock.
I have decided upon this genre as I have a personal interest in it and know
knowledge on the topic before even constructing my magazine, being able to
have a strong understanding of the codes and conventions of said genres
magazines. I also believe that there is an unexplored market for rock music
amongst young women which isnt often touched upon, and this is something I
would which to explore.
Target Audience
My Magazine will be targeted towards White British young women around the
ages of 16 to 21, coming from middle class backgrounds and living a typical
student lifestyle (i.e. attending college/university, may have a part time job,
etc.). My target audience is rather unconventional for a rock magazine as the
artists in the genre are predominantly male therefore it is assumed the sales
market would also be made up of a male majority, however I believe that my
magazine will be able to appeal to a niche market of female rock fans that are
often ignored by most rock-themed media products.
