Internet can be used for education.

Good morning to our horoble Lecturer and all my friends.

Today I wish to talk about how the internet can be used for education.
A computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized
data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence
of instructions on how the data is to be processed.
Complex computers also include the means for storing data (including the
program, which is also a form of data) for some necessary duration. A
program may be invariable and built into the computer (and called logic
circuitry as it is on microprocessors) or different programs may be provided
to the computer (loaded into its storage and then started by an
administrator or user).
Today's computers have both kinds of programming.
Modern computers inherently follow the ideas of the stored program laid
out by John von Neumann in 1945. Essentially, the program is read by the
computer one instruction at a time, an operation is performed, and the
computer then reads in the next instruction, and so on. Recently,
computers and programs have been devised that allow multiple programs
(and computers) to work on the same problem at the same time in parallel.
With the advent of the Internet and higher bandwidth data transmission,
programs and data that are part of the same overall project can be

distributed over a network and embody the Sun Microsystems slogan: "The
network is the computer."
Internet
A means of connecting a computer to any other computer anywhere in the
world via dedicated routers and servers. When two computers are
connected over the Internet, they can send and receive all kinds
of information such as text, graphics, voice, video, and computer programs
The internet in simple terms is a network of the interlinked computer
networking worldwide, which is accessible to the general public. These
interconnected computers work by transmitting data through a special type
of packet switching which is known as the IP or the internet protocol.
Internet is such a huge network of several different interlinked networks
relating to the business, government, academic, and even smaller domestic
networks, therefore internet is known as the network of all the other
networks.
These networks enable the internet to be used for various important
functions which include the several means of communications like the file
transfer, the online chat and even the sharing of the documents and web
sites on the WWW, or the World Wide Web.
It is always mistaken said that the internet and the World Wide Web are
both the same terms, or are synonymous. Actually there is a very

significant difference between the two which has to be clear to understand

both the terms. The internet and World Wide Web are both the networks
yet; the internet is the network of the several different computers which are
connected through the linkage of the accessories like the copper wires, the
fiber optics and even the latest wireless connections.
However, the World Wide Web consists of the interlinked collection of the
information and documents which are taken as the resource by the general
public. These are then linked by the website URLs and the hyperlinks.
Therefore World Wide Web is one of the services offered by the whole
complicated and huge network of the internet.
The use of IP in the Internet is the integral part of the network, as they
provide the services of the internet, through different layers organization
through the IP data packets. There are other protocols that are the subclasses of the IP itself, like the TCP, and the HTTP.
There is so much that students can do with the Internet. Not only can they
communicate with international students, they can gain from others'
knowledge and experiences, participate in chatrooms, share ideas and
solutions and learn about the many diverse cultures out there.
While the Internet does a lot for students, there are also benefits for
parents and teachers.
The interactive learning that the Internet provides can help students and
parents with little or no English skills to learn English. Parents can become

more involved in their children's education by connecting the school with

homes, libraries or other access ports.
Teachers can adjust to the different learning styles and in the classroom.
They can also set their own pace of teaching. Individual teaching
techniques can become more available, which has been proven to be a
factor in student achievement.
Teachers have the chance to be able to teach at more than one place
simultaneously. They may be in a small town but through the Internet, they
can be linked to students in more populated areas.
Also, the Internet enables administrators and teachers to spend less time
on administration and recordkeeping. This would also give them more time
to spend with their students.
Education these days has been the top priority for any family or individual
person, and no doubt amongst the latest technologies to promote and
maintain the education standards the internet comes first.
Internet is not only an access to websites, these days there is knowledge
and information on every aspect of the educational world over the internet.
The resources provided on various web pages are indeed very informative
and useful for professionals and students related to every field of work.

The only pre-requisite is the research over the internet for a specific
educational topic, and then this information just needs to be filtered to gain
the basic knowledge of what you are looking for.
Therefore, these are true internet resources which deal with every
individual's educational needs. Internet has also provided the opportunity to
study online. There are virtual universities set up, in which the students can
take classes sitting on the computer seat opening the university's website
video section according the topic, and then study at home.
The most amazing thing about internet education is that the international
education is no more a chance for only the wealthy and high profile family
students because now via internet no matter if one can afford to study in
top most universities, people can easily benefit from the international
quality education and gain a respectable university degree sitting at home
through the online educational courses provided by the world universities.
Internet education thus also provides the individuals to balance their time
according to their own needs, as there is no fixed time to attend the
lectures. This also allows the poor class of people to work and study at the
same time through internet education.

The Internet is the largest set of computer networks that use the Internet Protocol.
The invention and development of the Internet was the biggest discovery by
mankind in the 20th century that lead to a revolution. Today, the Internet is used by
more than 50% of the world population as its applications are found in nearly every
fields of life, be it communication, knowledge, news, shopping, marketing,
entertainment, education, etc. So, how exactly does the Internet technology benefit
students for education? Let us take a look at it in detail.
Use of the Internet in Education
The fast and relatively low-cost access is one of the major benefits of Internet to
people and students all over the world as getting an Internet connection is easy.
Communication and information are the two most important uses of the Internet.
Secondly, information can be updated or modified at any time and for any number
of times, which helps in learning and better understanding.
Easy Contact
As mentioned above, communication is one of the biggest advantages of the
Internet in education. Students can contact other students or their teachers via the
E-mail if they have queries about any information. Sharing of information,
discussions on a particular subject, etc., can be easily carried out using the Internet.
At the same time, teachers can also contact parents and guardians easily using
Internet.
School/College Projects
The Internet can be most useful for completing projects in schools and colleges. As
the Internet is an ocean of information, covering nearly all subjects known to man,
one can find information, research work, etc., required for one's projects. Going
through the information on the Internet is definitely faster than reading an entire
book on the subject. Homework is also made easier with the help of the Internet
which is also one of the important uses of computers in education.
Encyclopedia
Sometimes, an encyclopedia may not always be available to students and they may
have difficulty in gaining access to the books in the library. In that case, the
encyclopedia of various subjects available on the Internet can be helpful. This is
more useful for students who belong to communities not having English as their
mother tongue. Kids and younger children can also be benefited by the Internet by
using the pictures, videos, etc., which is one of the major advantages, when
comparing textbooks versus computer teaching.
News
All the latest news are constantly updated on the Internet on news sites. Students
learning politics, can have an access to all the current affairs through the Internet in

the school campus, at home, or at any other place. Historical accounts like
speeches, biographies, etc., are also easily available on the Internet in detailed and
accurate versions.
Online Learning
Another positive effect of Internet in education is the onset of distance education or
online learning. With this facility, you can take up short-term courses with the
course material available online, learn, and give exams. One of the benefits of
online learning is that people from any part of the world can gain knowledge on
different subjects, complete courses, etc.
Using Multimedia
Arguably, it is believed that visual data has a greater impact on learning and
memorizing than plain text. Therefore, images, graphics, animation, pictures, slides,
documentaries, etc., have a greater appeal than a plain textbook. Using multimedia
and Internet provides an opportunity for children to gain knowledge about a
particular subject in depth. Students can now see the actual photographs of rare
bird species, or see animated graphics of a volcanic eruption to understand it in
detail.
Affordable Knowledge
Investing in research material may be tedious and unaffordable for some. But, now,
thanks to the Internet, we have content websites, web encyclopedias, and
dictionaries whenever we want them. Today, able as well as less-able students can
be benefited to the sea of knowledge through the Internet. University courses and
learning is now easy for people belonging to all strata of the society with the help of
online courses.
Easy Education System
Not only gaining knowledge, but, every part of the education system is simplified
because of the Internet. You can now view your prospective educational institute,
look up for courses, enroll to online courses, take classes, research, see your results,
and even look for job prospects on the Internet. Therefore, the scope of Internet in
education is very wide and equal to all.
No Age Bracket for Education
Online courses provide an opportunity for people of all age groups to take up
education of their choice, according to their liking and wish. Be it a student, a
housewife, or a professional, they can just start up their computers, connect to the
Internet, and take virtual classes. Therefore, people can now gain knowledge
according to their need and time available. You are, now, never too old or too busy
to learn something new.
With these points, we find that the importance of Internet in education cannot be

denied, and hence, every student should be given access to the Internet for deeper
understanding and knowledge of a subject. However, lots and lots of information
can be termed as both, advantages and disadvantages of the Internet as students
can also have an access to unwanted or unethical information and sites. Therefore,
it is only wise for parents to make students understand what is good and what not
for them, or keep a watch on their surfing.
Lastly, although the Internet cannot replace books or classroom education, it is one
of the best substitute for those who wish to gain deeper knowledge on literally
every subject under the sun. Good luck!
