NORDIC ID CUSTOMIZER
Nordic ID Customizer is a development
tool that makes mass customization,
deployment and version management
easy.

DESCRIPTION

With Nordic ID Customizer you can

create a package file (.pak) that
consists of all the changes made to
the factory settings of a handheld. The
changes are taken into use by placing
the .pak file in a Nordic ID device flash
folder or SD card and by performing a
cold boot.

The .pak files can contain:

files to be added to the device
information of files that are
changed in the device
changes to the registry settings
Any customer specific application can
be distributed as a .pak file. A device
can also have multiple .pak files.
The .pak files e.g. customer specific
software, can easily be installed in
production, or distributed as updates
via remote management tools. When
installed in production the integrity of
the file is checked with an end-tester.
The devices are ready-to-use right
away by the customer upon arrival.
Customizer is comparable to Microsoft
CAB files, which are also supported by
Nordic ID mobile computers.

BENEFITS
Automatized mass
customization

Software or settings can easily be distributed as Customizer .pak files

Traceabiliy

.pak files can be traced to the developer through the Customizer tool

Ready-to-use

Customization packages can be installed in production.

Secure

Customizer compares the device settings/software to the factory settings and stores all
the changes and thereby removes the risk of loosing information in deployment.

NORDIC ID MHL
Nordic ID MHL (multiple hardware
layers) is a development tool that
combines features of typical application
programming interfaces (API) with
software development kits (SDK).
In Nordic ID mobile computers the
Nordic ID MHL is a service that handles
the interaction between software and
hardware. As a development tool MHL
works like a command library and a
sample code collection. It includes all
commands that are needed to control
Nordic ID hardware in a format that
can easily be used in the application
development.
A typical API system consists of native
applications and Java user applications
that are designed to communicate
with a certain type of hardware. The
applications are typically linked to the
hardware. MHL differs from traditional
systems by allowing the user to link to
and adapt to the hardware in real time
with a so called wrap feature. This
means that the application interface
is not dependent on what hardware it
is installed on. MHL is an abstraction
layer between hardware dependent
drivers and applications. The benefit
of the abstract hardware layer is that
it absorbs any changes made in the
actual hardware.

BENEFITS
Hardware
independent

MHL handles any updates to drivers or hardware and thus newer and older units can easily
be mixed as the application never even knows there is a difference

Consistent

Offers a possibility to run the same application on different Nordic ID devices without an
impact to the application

Easy-to-use

Easier for programmers as there is a limited amount of commands and all functions operate
the same or at least very similar

Support

Own support website that offers additional information and sample code
Nordic ID provides extensive documentation and sample codes for MHL

Pre-installed

Pre-installed on all Nordic ID mobile computers

When a driver changes Nordic ID

adjusts the MHL interface to suite the
driver and the application interface
remains intact. Other benefits include
that MHL is a standard accross all
Nordic ID mobile computers, works
with the same logic across all hardware
functionalities and works with the same
syntax in all programming languages.
When a developer knows how to
control a functionality in one device
with one language, he knows how to
control all fuctionalities in any device
with any language. There is no need to
study various drivers and APIs.

NETOP
Netop is one of the most secure, trusted
and scalable remote management solutions in the market. It offers secure remote
control and support for workstations,
servers, embedded systems and mobile
devices. Nordic ID recommends NetOp
remote management system for our
Windows-based mobile computers.
NetOp automatically maintains connection, including re-connection in case of
network failure etc. to the entire device
population on the background. By
combining NetOp with the Nordic ID
Link Watchdog the WLAN connection
can be maintained and the benefits of the
Remote Manager are maximized.
NetOp can use a connection through
the desktop charger as a back-up for
the wireless (WLAN, GPRS, EDGE,
3G) connections. Help desk personnel
can access the information and
devices without separate connection
establishments. NetOp also provides
last seen-information of the devices
that are not active in the system.

DESCRIPTION
Components

NetOp Host (handheld software)

NetOp Guest (help desk software)
NetOp Gateway (when several help desks are used simultaniously monitoring the same
device population) If devices are in several IP subnetworks, a gateway is required for
each subnet.

TYPICAL USER SCENARIOS

User initiated help
request

The user sends a help request to the help desk

The help desk personnel can view the device (active display, file system, settings, logs)
The help desk can send a message to the devices display
The help desk can take over the device completely (File management, settings change,
application installation, booting the device, device update)

Help desk initiated

contact

The help desk can monitor the use of the devices and react when users initiate
contact

Application update

Help desk can send updates (files, settings, applications) to a single device, groups or
all of the devices at the same time

Asset management

The help desk can:

Locate individual devices
Determine when under which IP a device was last seen within the network
Access the devices activity statistics. For example which device has been active in which
system
Access the statistical data of the device population and individual devices such as the
time connected to a network, the time the device has been in use
Track the device update history

BENEFITS

NETOP

Secure remote control compliant with current security standards

Less staff time spent on solving support issues, reduced travel time and rapid ROI
Wide range of platforms supported for all internal staff, external users and your mobile
workforce
Easily scalable to thousands of workstations with fast installation
Lower your liability by protecting sensitive data
Detailed audit trails and session recordings
