Dear Parent/Carer,

Re: School Closure Monday 2nd February

I write to explain the decision to close the school yesterday and to thank you for your understanding and
support in this matter.
At around 7.30am yesterday, I became aware of a potential threat to the safety of the school community.
Whilst it seemed likely that the threat was a hoax, the situation still required a high level of involvement
from the police and careful management of the situation at school.
Had I not acted to close the school, students and staff would have spent considerable time evacuated
from the premises, in near zero temperatures, whilst the threat was fully assessed and the eventual allclear given.
Reassuringly, the threat has been investigated and there is no need to be concerned. The police are now
focussing their energies on bringing the perpetrator to justice. I know that they have already interviewed
potential associates of this person. I am also pleased that there is no known link to any member of the
school community, past or present.
Please do be assured that in such circumstances, our protocols are designed to focus on the safety of all
members of the school community. This was the primary consideration in the decision made yesterday.
I am aware that at such times parent/carers wish to confirm decisions, and that resorting to the telephone
would appear to be the best course of action. However, this places great strain on the school telephone
system and on staff resources, which invariably means that not all calls will be taken. May I urge you all
to access the school website or follow our Social Media accounts on Facebook and Twitter, where up-todate information can be instantly obtained.
Please also note that, as if telephoning is not challenging enough, Google currently have a wrong
address and telephone number for the school listed on the internet. Calling the number that is listed will
direct you to the Syon Coffee Shop on St Johns Road instead of the school! Please cut out the attached
business cards, which contain all of our contact details. I hope that this will prove useful.
