MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

~!39COPTER

INTRODUCTION

1
1.1

GENERAL
Scope of the Maintenance Program
The Maintenance Program (PRE) is drawn up by the aircraft manufacturer and it gives all the
maintenance operations that are to be performed by the operator.
It specifies the mandatory limitations and operations to ensure that the aircraft airworthiness is
maintained, as well as all the operations and intervals, recommended by the manufacturer
and designed to ensure the operational availability of the aircraft, irrespective of its varied
operating missions.

1.2

Classification of the information

The intervals specified in this PRE are classified according to their importance into three
categories coded with stars (*):
" ** "

Intervals are considered to be mandatory. They are specified in the "Airworthiness

Limitations" section. No margins are permissible.
Any changes to an interval can be negotiated only with the Manufacturer (EUROCOPTER)
and the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency).
" * "
Intervals beyond the margin can be adjusted subject to the approval of the Manufacturer
(EUROCOPTER) and supervisory authorities. The permissible margin complies with
Paragraph 2.5, unless "No margin permissible" is specified.

" "
Intervals beyond the margin with no distinctive signs can be adjusted subject to the
approval of the Manufacturer (EUROCOPTER), providing compliance with the applicable
local authorities' regulations is ensured. The adjusted margin complies with Paragraph 2.5.
NOTE:

The " * " or " ** " classification can also be used

in other manuals (e.g. the Maintenance Manual
(MET)). In this case, it applies to the procedure.
For example, a procedure can be classified " ** "
with an interval not classified " ** ".

1.3

Airworthiness Limitations
The airworthiness limitations are always subject to approval by the European Airworthiness
Authorities.

G ~!39COPTER

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The operating time limits specified for the components guarantee flight safety with respect to
the stress to which they are subjected. These limits do not constitute a commercial warranty.
It may be necessary to remove the components before the listed time, based on other criteria
such as wear, fretting, corrosion ...
The only warranty applicable to the helicopter and to the components is that included in the
purchase agreement.

2
2.1

DEFINITIONS
Aircraft Maintenance

THE INITIAL DATE FOR AIRCRAFT AIRFRAME

AGING IS THE DATE THAT IS MARKED ON THE
IDENTIFICATION PLATE OF THE HELICOPTER.

Maintenance covers all the operations intended to maintain the aircraft airworthiness, flight
readiness and performance in the course of time.
It includes monitoring, servicing and the repair of aircraft components as defined in the different
manuals, taking into account all the information that the aircraft manufacturer may need to
pass on to the operator (Service Bulletins, Service Telex, Information Telex, Service Letters ... ).

2.2
2.2.1

Types of Maintenance
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Which means all scheduled, usually recurrent, actions to check and maintain a given
operational level.
2.2.2

CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE

Which means all the actions carried out further to a failure or a fault to restore the initial
operational level.
2.2.3

REMEDIAL MAINTENANCE

Which means all the actions designed to correct an anomaly and enable all or part of the
preventive and corrective maintenance associated with this anomaly to be discontinued.

2.3

Maintenance Procedures
There are three main maintenance procedures:
- hard time maintenance,
- on condition maintenance,
- condition monitoring.

G ~B9COPTER

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

defects that might affect the surface, the protection and paint coat of the components.
These defects must be examined and repaired immediately in compliance with the
applicable directives (criteria, then reconditioning).
Components and assemblies subject to "OC" maintenance are listed in Section 05.1 0.00.
The inspection intervals and the MET work cards on which the inspections are detailed,
are given in Section 05.20.01/02/03 of this PRE.
The airworthiness inspection checks are marked " ** " (two stars) in Section
05.20.01/02/03 and called "CHK" in Section 05.99.00 of this PRE.

2.3.3

Condition Monitoring
Remedial action is taken on a component subject to condition monitoring only after a
fault has been detected on it (without affecting flight safety).
The fault may be evidenced during a maintenance operation or in service. These
components are not therefore listed in a special chapter of this PRE.

2.4

Particular and Severe Operating Conditions

Certain climatic conditions are considered to be particular operating conditions.
They basically relate to operation:
- in damp tropical atmosphere
- in salt-laden atmosphrere
- in sand- and/or dust-laden atmosphere
- in cold weather
- in very cold weather
The limitations and maintenance procedures pertaining to each type of operating conditions
are covered with all the other tasks (refer to Sections 05.10.00 and 05.20.01 /02/03). The
particular operating condition is specified in the relevant task.
In these operating conditions, in addition to the routine maintenance operations, it is
necessary to apply the recommended preventive procedures as per Work Card 05.52.00.301.
As no particular interval is specified, the operator will repeat these procedures according to
his own experience gained in corresponding conditions.

2.4.1

Definitions:
Damp tropical atmosphere:
Helicopters operating in the following conditions: combinations of high temperatures
and high humidity levels (from + 28 C and 75 % relative humidity).
Salt-laden atmosphere:
Helicopters operating in the following conditions:
- Helicopters based on a ship or based less than 1 km inland for more than 50 % of
the time,
or
- Flying offshore at low altitude (below 1 ,000 feet) for more than 50 % of the time.

YJ39COPTER

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Specific case:
Not applicable.
2.5.1.2

Intervals classified as "1-star" intervals

General rule:
A margin of 10% limited:
- to 300 H, for intervals expressed in flight hours,
- to 6 months, for intervals expressed in calendar time,
- Not limited, for intervals expressed in a number of cycles or operations.
Important: This margin of 10% is not specified in the tasks concerned.
Specific case:
- If a specific margin is defined, it is specified in the task concerned.
- If the margin is equal to 0, a "no margin permissible" annotation is specified in
the task concerned.

2.5.1.3

Intervals classified as intervals with "no star"

General rule:
A margin of 10% limited:
- to 300 H, for intervals expressed in flight hours,
- to 6 months, for intervals expressed in calendar time,
- Not limited, for intervals expressed in a number of cycles or operations.
Important: This margin of 10% is not specified in the tasks concerned.
Specific case:
Not applicable.

~B9COPTER

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The next application of this same maintenance operation A shall be carried out at the
latest at X + Y i.e. 600 + 60 = 660 H.
In all cases, the interval between two maintenance operations shall not exceed the
maximum interval i.e. X + Y.
This principle is identical for intervals expressed in calendar time or cycles.

2.6
2.6.1

Authorization to install and transfer a component (part or assembly) from one

aircraft version to another aircraft version
Components not Subject to In-Service Monitoring

Transfer of components not subject to in-service monitoring is authorized between any

versions; in particular, the mixability of such components is thus authorized between civil
and military versions.

MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The effectivity (helicopter type and version) is indicated on the "TITLE" page and repeated at the
bottom of each page of the PRE.

MODIFYING AND UPDATING THE PRE

Each time he receives a revision from the aircraft manufacturer, the operator must update his
documentation. To this end, he will use the "LIST OF EFFECTIVE PAGES" given in both the
MAINTENANCE PROGRAM and AIRWORTHINESS LIMITATIONS sections. The date indicated at
the bottom of each page in each section must correspond to that indicated in these lists.

There are different types of Revisions: the Temporary Revision (TR), the Normal Revision (NR)
and the Customer Complement (CC).

4.1
4.1.1

4.1.2

Temporary Revision (TR): Printed on yellow paper

General

EUROCOPTER may need to change points they consider to be important in the manual
between two normal revisions, and they do this by issuing Temporary Revisions.

The Temporary Revision covers crucial information that must be passed on rapidly and
cannot wait until the next Normal Revision (NR). Several TRs may be issued between
two NRs.

The new DUs, whether revised or deleted, are issued in full on yellow paper. Changes
are identified by thick vertical lines in the right margin. TRs are identified by the number
of the next NR followed by a letter taken in alphabetical order and by a date: e.g.: 003b
identifies the second TR of the NR 002.

Content and Application

The Temporary Revision is made up of a "Highlights" unit, a List of Effective Pages

"LOEP-TR" and one or more Document Units.

The "Highlights" unit lists the major points covered by the TR. This information is issued
for each new TR.
The "LOEP-TR" identifies the new DUs, those revised and those deleted by the Temporary
Revision. The date marked on the DU is that of the TR by which it was modified. This
list is to be inserted at the beginning of the corresponding manual and, when necessary,
it supersedes that issued previously. This list must be kept until the next NR.
The new DUs, those revised and those deleted:
- the new DU on yellow paper is to be inserted directly in the manual,
- the revised DU on yellow paper entirely supersedes the related DU issued on white
paper. The DU on white paper is to be removed from the manual.
- the DU that is to be deleted by the TR is issued on a single yellow page marked
"DELETED". This page supersedes all the white pages of the Document Unit in
question and the white pages are to be removed from the manual.

COMPATIBILITY - INCOMPATIBILITY
A system designed for specific operational requirements may sometimes impede other functions.
This incompatibility may be encoutered at two different levels:
In operation. The operating incompatibility of optional equipment is specified in the Flight Manual.
On installation on the aircraft:
- either provision is ensured on the helicopter for two optional systems but they cannot be
installed at the same time: installation incompatibility.
- or two optional systems can be installed at the same time provided that at least one of the
systems is modified: compatibility subject to certain conditions.
The following table lists the approved optional equipment and specifies any incompatibility,
capabilities subject to conditions and indicates when consequences on the helicopter operation are
specified in a Flight Manual Supplement.
