Benito Mussolini & the Fascist Party

Our group picked the topic: Benito Mussolini and the Fascist Party, because we found it
very different from all the other topics. We found it different, because it still exists in todays
time in some parts of the world and still hasnt died out. This topic was also unique compared to
all the other topics, because Benito Mussolini is not considered a positive ruler, but a negative
one. My group wanted to stay away from the generic ideas and concepts like Martin Luther King
Jr., so that no one would use a topic like ours. We wanted to pick a topic that we didnt have any
background knowledge about, so we could gain more knowledge about Benito Mussolini and his
effects.
We conducted our research by first learning some background knowledge about Benito
Mussolini. We wanted to find out the minimal facts, so that we could eventually find a way to
organize our website to best suit all the important and main information. We first went to
credible sources to find the information that we needed, so that it would be reliable. We also
wanted to find more primary sources, because they are more credible and have more influence on
the readers of our website. We also conducted our experiment by creating a graphic organizer,
which helped group our data by similar characteristics.
We selected our category, a website, because we found making a website to be the most
challenging and exciting compared to the rest. My partner and I had already done a board in the
sixth grade, but that was relatively easy for us. We both also enjoy computers and designing
website, so we knew that creating a website was the best option for us. We created our project by
looking up background information and grouping the information into categories with common
characteristics. We then found information to help broaden our knowledge in these sub
categories. After researching the information we found more pictures and primary sources and
uploaded them onto our websites.
This years NHD theme was Leadership and Legacy. Our topic relates to the theme,
because Benito Mussolini was a leader and left a legacy such as the Fascist Party. Benito
Mussolini was overall considered a negative leader even though he did have a few positive
effects. His legacy included the Fascist party. This party still influences parts of the world today,
even after many years after his death. This topic was given so that people can learn more about
groups, organizations, or even single rulers. Benito Mussolini was a single ruler, but he joined
forces and got help from other leaders also including Hitler. A legacy is how the work of an
important leader, good or bad, still affects us today and the changes it made to the surrounding
places. Benito Mussolini did a very good job in showing us that you dont always have to do
good things to impact the world around you.
