As 2012 ushers in, it brings with it happiness & new zeal to reach
greater heights. Universally it is an accepted fact that people
are the prime movers in organizational success and it certainly
has greater relevance in a consulting business like ours which
thrives on human capital. Research confirms that happy people
really do work harder! Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, one of the most
influential management thinkers of our times suggests MOJO,
the positive spirit toward what we do that starts from the inside
and radiates to the outside. Our Mojo is that magic charm within
us which keeps us going. Following factors help you build a great
MOJO:Identity:
What we think we are
Achievement: What we think we have done lately
Reputation: What do other people think we are
Acceptance: What we can change and what we cannot
change
Why are happier people more productive?
F People like to associate with them as they emanate positive
energy.
F They are able to derive more enjoyment out of their work and
less likely to get bored and fatigued.
F They are easily accepted in any team without resistance.
F They make more friends and support systems around them
and can pull through even in crisis situations.

The Warwick economists

Modeling Travel Time Distribution under uncertainties from

Demand and Capacity of System:A Case Study of Urban Corridor
Paper presented By Mr. Aneesh R.G. (Assistant Engineer Traffic & Transportation)
at the conference by Transport Research Group of India (7th -10th Dec 2011)
Travel Time distribution or variability in travel time is most useful indicator to measure performance and reliability of
transportation system. The properties of this distribution are described by various uncertainties which are derived from
supply side, demand side factors of a particular road network. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the travel
time distribution under uncertain from traffic volume as demand side factor and capacity variation as supply side factor.
Demand variation represents the uncertainty of traffic flow within the day or from day to day. Capacity is measured as a
random variable in travel time reliability analysis. The capacity can be estimated in two ways such as direct empirical
and indirect empirical methods. This study presents the direct approach for estimating the distribution of capacity for
urban corridor by considering the Product Limit Method (PLM). The theory behind the PLM is based on explicit division
of flow observations. This allows estimation of the capacity distribution. Travel Time variation has been modelled under
these uncertainties. For this, probabilistic simulation model was considered in this study. Probabilistic models are
mostly used and efficient for analyzing the stochastic relation between the response and uncertain explanatory
variable.
This model was applied to an urban arterial corridor on National Highway number 2 of Delhi-Mathura Road. Consistent
one week video graphic data in morning hours was collected for estimating travel time through vehicle license plate
matching. Traffic volume and speed data has been collected during morning hours. Capacity distribution has been
estimated by using PLM method. Results show that travel time obtained using probabilistic model is well distributed
and follows actual travel time distribution. And also found that this model is efficient for analyzing the stochastic relation
between the response and uncertain explanatory variable.
