INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION
This installation manual explains the procedures for installing and setting up the DI Print and
Data Writing Service for Fujifilm Digital Minilab FRONTIER Series as well as precautions for its
use.
This manual should be kept in a fixed place near the machine so that it can be referred to at any
time a point needs to be clarified.

System Preparations

2.2.1 PC and Media Drive Preparations

Required SCSI board:


Adaptec 2940
Adaptec 2930LP
Adaptec 29160

Prepare the PC, media drives, HUB, and the


cables.

Required CD-R:
Fujifilm CD-R

PC that meets the following requirements:


CPU
: Pentium II 400MHz
Hard disk : At least 9GB x 2 drives
Memory : At least 256MB

OS
Windows NT4.0 Workstation SP6 or Windows
2000 Professional SP2
SCSI board must be installed beforehand.

Required scanner type:


MICROTEK ScanMaker 4
EPSON Expression 1600
EPSON Expression 1680

Media drives and cables


Zip, Jaz, MO, CD-R, PC card, SSFDC, CF,
Flatbed scanner, etc.
(SD Memory Card, Memory Stick and Microdrive
are supported only with Windows 2000)
In Windows 2000, the USB connection is also
available for the drive media except CD-R.
However, the processing speed in USB connection is not assured, and correct assignment of
drive name may not be done.

IMPORTANT:
Never use the CD-RW media instead of CD-R.

Resolution: 800 x 600 pixels or higher
Display Color: 32bit

Aspi manager must be installed. If not, an error


may occur when starting Data Writing or Print
to Print software. At the installation of the
Windows NT, Wnaspi32.DLL is installed in the
System32 folder in the Winnt folder in the C
drive, but it is not activated. To activate it, install
and set up Wnaspi32.DLL using any of the
following ways.
(1) Install EZ-SCSI(CD-ROM) provided with
Adaptec 2940 SCSI board.
(2) Install the writing software EZ-CD creator
provided with the dedicated CD-R drives.
(See Recommended CD-R drive types
shown above.)

Make sure to use the SCSI connection for the


CD-R drive.

2.2.2 Hard Disk Partition

2.2.3 Virtual Memory Setting

During the installation of Windows NT/Windows


2000, partition your hard disk into two regions: one
for the system and the other for order registration
and spooling (Ex: 4GB for the system and 5GB for
order registration). For details see the Windows NT/
Windows 2000 setup manual.

[In case of Windows NT]

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Settings] [Control Panel].


Click the [System] icon in the Control Panel
window.
The System Properties screen appears.
Select [Performance] tab.

Click.

Click [Change] under [Virtual Memory] on


[Performance] tab.
The Virtual Memory screen appears.
Click.

Click.

In the Drive list, click the drive you want to


change.

Click [Change].
The Virtual Memory screen appears.

Under Paging File Size for Selected Drive, type


500 in the Initial Size (MB) and Maximum Size
(MB) boxes.

Select the drive.

Click.

If the Paging File Size is less than 500MB,


make it more than 500MB.
If it exceeds 500MB, make sure to allocate it
more than the physical memory size.

Click [Set].
Click [OK].
Operation returns to the System Properties
screen.

On the System Properties screen, click [OK].


Operation returns to the Control Panel window.
Check if the initial size (MB)
and maximum size (MB) are
more than 500MB.

[In case of Windows 2000]

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Settings] [Control Panel].

Click the [System] icon in the Control Panel


window.

In the Drive list, click the drive you want to


change.
Under Paging File Size for Selected Drive,
make sure that the Initial Size (MB) and
Maximum Size (MB) are more than 500MB.
If the Paging File Size is less than 500MB,
make it more than 500MB.

The System Properties screen appears.

Click.

Click [Performance Options] on [Advanced] tab.


The Performance Options screen appears.

Click [Set].
Click [OK].
Operation returns to the Performance Options,
so click [OK] to return to the System Properties
screen.

On the System Properties screen, click [OK].


Operation returns to the Control Panel window.

Click.

2.2.4 Computer Name Setting

In the [Computer Name] box, type FRONTEND


and click [OK].

[In case of Windows NT]


The confirmation message appears.

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Settings] [Control Panel].


Click [Network] in the Control Panel window.
The Network screen is displayed.

Click.

Select [Identification] tab.

Click [OK].
Operation returns to the Network screen.

Click.

Click [Identification] tab.


Move the cursor to the Computer Name and click
[Change].
The Identification Changes screen appears.
Type FRONTEND.

[In case of WIndows 2000]

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Settings] [Control Panel].

In the [Computer Name] box, type FRONTEND


and click [OK].
The confirmation message appears.

Click [System] in the Control Panel window.


The System Properties screen is displayed.
Select [Network Identification] tab.

Click.

Click [OK].
Operation returns to the System Properties
screen.

Click.

The Identification Changes screen appears.
Type FRONTEND.

2.2.5 Network Protocol Setting

If NetBEUI Protocol is not found in the Network


Protocols:, register it.

[In case of Windows NT]


(1) Click [Add].

IMPORTANT: Make sure to use NetBEUI protocol.

(2) Select NetBEUI Protocol and then click


[OK].

On the Network screen, click [Protocols] tab.


Select [Protocols] tab.

Select [NetBEUI Protocol].

Click.

(3) Complete the registration by following the


messages given.

[In case of Windows 2000]

Click NetBEUI Protocol in the Network


Protocols and click [Close].
The Network Settings Change message
appears.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to use NetBEUI protocol.

On the Control Panel screen, double-click


[Network and Dial-up Connections].

Click.

Click [No].

Double-click.

Click [Local Area Connection] icon and then click


[Network Identification] tab.

If NetBEUI Protocol is not found in the


Components checked are used by this
connection:, register it.

Double-click Local Area Connection icon.


(1) Click [Install].
The Local Area Connection Status screen
appears.

(2) Click [Protocol], and then click the [Add]


button.
Select [Protocol].

Click.

Click.

(3) Select [NetBEUI Protocol] and then click


[OK].

Click [Properties].

Confirm if NetBEUI Protocol in the Components


checked are used by this connection: is checked
[], and if not, check [] it.

Select [NetBEUI Protocol].

Check if [NetBEUI Protocol] is checked [].

Click.

If [NetBEUI Protocol] is not found, click [Install].

2.2.6 Creating a User Account


[In case of Windows NT]

Type FRONTIER in both the [User name] and


[Full Name] columns, and enter a password in
both the [Password] and [Confirm Password]
columns.

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Programs] [Administrative Tools] - [User Manager].

Type FRONTIER.

The User Manager screen appears.

Click.

In the User menu, click New User.

Check Password Never Expires box.

Click [Groups].
The Group Memberships screen appears.

The New User screen appears.

Choose Administrators and click [Add].


On the Group Memberships screen, click [OK].
On the New User screen, click [OK].

[In case of Windows 2000]

Select [Tree]-[Users].

On the Control Panel screen, double-click


[Users and Passwords].

Select [Tree]-[Users].

Select [New User] from [Action] on the menu


bar.

Double-click.

Click [Advanced] tab.


Click [Advanced] tab.

Type FRONTIER in [User name], [Full name],


[Password] and [Confirm password:] columns.
Type [FRONTIER].

Click [Create] then [Close].

Click [Advanced].

Remove the checkmark from User must change


password at next log-on, and check [] Password never expires.
Click.

Select [FRONTIER] from the right-hand list (1),


and then select [Properties] from [Action] on the
menu bar (2).

Select [Administrators] on the Select Groups


screen, and then click [Add] to add it to the list.
And then click [OK].

Select [FRONTIER] (1).

Select [Administrators].

Select [Properties] (2).

Click.

Click [Member Of] tab, and then click [Add]


Select [Member Of] tab.

[Member Of] tab of the [FRONTIER Properties]
screen.

2.2.7 Restarting

[In case of Windows NT]

On the Desktop, choose [Start] - [Shut Down].

(Build 1381: Service Pack 6) is displayed in the


upper right-hand corner of the Windows NTs
BLUE starting screen.
[Windows 2000]
Microsoft Windows NTTM Version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 6).

The settings take effect after restarting the computer.

In case of Windows NT, click Restart the


computer? and click [Yes].

Check if the Service Pack is properly installed
using the following procedures.

On the Control Panel window, click [System]


icon.

Click.

The System Properties screen appears.

Check that the Service Pack 2 is displayed in the


System on the General tab.

DI Print Service/Data Writing Software Ver.5.5 can only be operated in the following combination of the system
or other optional software.

FRONTIER 350/370
FRONTIER 390
FRONTIER 330/340
FRONTIER 355/375

A1: System Software Ver.7.0 or later


A1: System Software Ver.7.0 or later
A1: System Software Ver.2.0 or later
A1: System Software Ver.1.5 or later

IMPORTANT: Printing (including negative printing) cannot be performed during the installation.
IMPORTANT: Before starting the installation, perform the post-operational check, and shut down the FRONTIER. Do not shut it down by using the emergency stop button.
IMPORTANT: Before updating the DI Print/Data Writing Service Software [C4/C5] from Ver.4.5, Ver.4.6 and
Ver.5.0 to Ver.5.5, make sure that there are no orders in the DI Print [C4] and Data Writing [C5]
services, then close the [C4/C5]. When orders remain in the [C4/C5], complete the printing and
writing first, then start updating.
If you start updating while the orders remain in [C4/C5], they will be deleted.

Standard Setup/Upgrade

For the upgrade, use the same procedures as for the Standard Setup.
Before starting the installation of the DI Print/Data Writing Service Software [C4/C5], perform the Post-operational
check in FRONTIER and shut it down.
To install the DI Print/Data Writing Service Software [C4/C5] Ver.5.5, the Ver.5.0 software must be installed in the Imaging Controller.

Click the [Exit] button while pressing the [Shift]


key to close the DI Print/Data Writing Service
[C4/C5].

Select [Run] from [Start] menu on the Desktop.

Click [Exit] while pressing [Shift] key.

On the Run screen, enter h:\setup.exe, then


click [OK].

Insert the DI Print and Data Writing Service


Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.

The drive name (ex:h:\) varies according to the


CD-ROM drive into which you inserted the
installer CD.

On the Setup Type Selection screen, select


[Standard Setup], then click the [Next] button.
Select [Standard Setup].

On the Start Copying Files screen, click the


[Next] button.

Click.

Installing starts.

Upon completion of installation, remove the CD


from the CD drive, and then restart the Imaging
Controller.

Custom Setup/Upgrade

Custom Setup/Upgrade for Use of


DI Print/Data Writing Service [C4/C5]

Select [Run] from [Start] menu on the Desktop.

For the upgrade, use the same procedures as for the


custom setup.
Before starting the installation of the DI Print/Data
Writing Service Software [C4/C5], perform the Postoperational check in FRONTIER and shut it down.
To install the DI Print/Data Writing Service Software
[C4/C5] Ver.5.5, the Ver.5.0 software must be installed
in the Imaging Controller.

Click the [Exit] button while pressing the [Shift]


key to close the DI Print/Data Writing Service
[C4/C5].

Click [Exit] while pressing [Shift] key.

On the Run screen, enter h:\setup.exe, then


click [OK].

The drive name (ex:h:\) varies according to the


CD-ROM drive into which you inserted the
installer CD.

Insert the DI Print and Data Writing Service


Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.

On the Setup Type Selection screen, select


[Custom Setup], then click the [Next] button.

On the Select Application screen, click the [DI


Print/Data Writing Service Software Ver.5.5]
button.

If you added a hard disk drive for temporary


directories, enter its drive name.

On the Enter Text screen, check if the


FRONTEND is selected, and then click the
[Next] button.

Click.

NOTE:
If MSDE and 64MB SmartMedia Driver are
not installed in your system, install them.
(See 3.3 MSDE/64MB SmartMedia Driver
Installation on page 30.)

On the Setup Type Selection screen, select [DI


Print/Writing Service]. Then, click the [Next]
button.

Click.

On the Spool Drive Setting screen, select any


drive name (ex.D) as spool drive, and then click
the [Next] button.

Select a Setup type.

Click.

On the Working Drive Setting screen, click the


[Next] button.

Click.

The spool drives can be divided into two regions:


One for Inspool and another for Outspool.
Registered or digitized images are stored in the
Outspool. If you have added a hard disk drive
with a large storage space to the system,
change the drive name to the newly added drive
for storing large-size images.

On the Start Copying Files screen, click the


[Next] button.

3.2.2 Custom Setup/Upgrade for Use of


DI Print Service [C4] Only
For the upgrade, use the same procedures as for the
custom setup.

Click the [Exit] button while pressing the [Shift]

Backup Order Function

Backup Order Function is the function where you can temporarily store the orders from the external
application (Kiosk, etc.), and later can correct them on the View and Order screen.

3.4.1 Added Functions

If the Backup Order Function is installed, processing may be slower because the back-up processing
from the registered devices is done each time it is
executed.

By installing the Backup Order Function, the

Adjust the master color balance for this service after the fine scanning.
(Value: -99 to +99)

Monitor Balance

Adjust the monitor color balance for this service after the fine scanning.
(Value: -99 to+99)

Contrast

Adjust the contrast for the highlight or shadow part of the image after the fine
scanning. (Value: -5 to +5)

[OK] button

Allows all settings to take effect then returns to the main screen

[Cancel] button

Cancels all settings then returns to the main screen.

5 and 6 can be set only after the fine scanning is completed.

Multiple Service Setting

The Multiple Service is a service that provides multiple order registration at a time of film scanning
or image entry from the Digital Media. To use this service, register a combination of output devices
beforehand. Use the following procedures to register it.
On the Print Service - Administration screen or Writing Service - Administration screen, click [Multiple
service] button.
The Multiple Service - Administration screen appears.

Select a writing service to be registered.

Image Use Service

Select it when using Digital Reorder or NET service.

Displays the Help screen.

[1 Line Up] button

Moves the selected service upward in the Multiple Service List.

Perform the test DSC printing, CD writing, and Print-to-Print operation.

Product Information

The product information log can be monitored on the Log screen called by clicking the
[Statistic Log] button on the Order Reception - Administration screen. These log data stored in
the C:\FE folder can also be copied into the FD and can be monitored and analyzed.

6.1

DI Print Product Information

6.1.1 Save to FD

Insert a formatted 1.44MB FD into the FD drive.

Click the [Statistic Log] button on the Print


Service - Administration screen.

Make sure to use a new formatted FD.


Upon completion the copy, the message appears.

Click the [OK] button.

Click the [Statistic Log] button.

The Log screen appears.

Click the [Save to FD] button.

Click the [Save to FD] button.

6.2.1 Save to FD
