1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The patent-pending TROI BT-2 provides identification and tracking capabilities neverbefore available in such a tiny plastic package designed for rugged or hazardous use-areas.
The BT-2 was designed for all banding situations (2 inch diameter object and larger) using
traditional half-inch wide banding, and is able to withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees C.
A weldable version and an adhesive backed version are also offered.

IP classification
Weather-ability
Chemical resistance
IP68:
- Complete protection against dust
- Protection against continuous immersion in water
(Tested for 5 hours in 1 m [3.3 ft] depth)
Excellent, including UV-resistance and sea water immersion
No physical or performance changes in:
- Salt water
- NaOH (depending on concentration)
- Sulfuric acid (depending on concentration)
- Motor oil (tested in 168 hour exposure)
Generally good against:
- Most solvents
- Most acids and bases
* NOTE:
The RFID tag will not be functional if the BT-2 is left at the maximum indicated temperatures
such that the internal soak temperature exceeds +80 deg C (+176 deg F). The RFID tag itself
will function between -50 deg C and +80 deg C.

2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 TAG PLACEMENT
The BT-2 tag must be mounted with the large flat side of the tag with the slot towards the
metal surface and with no metal covering the tag. Mounting the tag upside down could
adversely affect the performance of the tag.
Mount this side to metal surface.
When mounting on a pipe, select an even metal surface so that the entire base of the BT-2 (or
as much of it as possible) is in contact with the mounting surface.
The BT-2s performance depends on the shape of the metal object and the tags placement on
that surface. Testing is recommended to verify performance in each use-case.
2.2 TAG ATTACHING METHODS
The tag can be either banded, glued (epoxyed), adhered (pressure-sensitive adhesive strip on
BT-2), or welded to the metal surface.
NOTE: Epoxying or using the pressure-sensitive adhesive requires the mounting surface on
the pipe to be free of dirt and debris.
2.2.1
Banding is an effective mounting and retention method. TROI offers many banding options
contact us.
2.2.1.1 Banding Options
TROI LLC offers a number of banding options: Contact us for more details or to let us know
of your banding needs.
BT-2-B1; plastic banding mounted through tag (other banding material can be used)
2.2.2
BT-2-B2; metal banding looped through the tag (other banding material can be used)
It is strongly recommended that TROIs AP-1 adhesive_paint be used when gluing tags.
(See TROIs AP-1 adhesive_paint datasheet for details).
Whichever epoxy is used, make sure that the mounting surface is clean and free of debris
before gluing the tag to the surface.
NOTE: It is not required that the surface be polished for the epoxy to function. In fact, a
slightly rough (but without any debris remaining) surface may aid adhesion.
2.2.3
Pressure-sensitive adhesive
This is the quickest method of attachment; peel the liner from the adhesive and press the tag
to the cleaned mounting surface. NOTE: It is also the least rugged attachment method.
2.2.4
Welding the tag to the metal surface is the most rugged attachment method available.
2.2.4.1 Weldable Option
BT-2-W1; The weldable steel bar protrudes approximately inch from either side of the
tag.
