Summer Trainings
1. Project Outline : Asset Management & Offshore Vessel Tracking
Organization : Transocean Offshore Drilling Inc., Mumbai.
x Analyzed and identified the bottlenecks in the entire external Supply chain of Transocean by way of tours
to ports at Goa and Kakinada; yard visits to Goa, Mumbai and Kakinada; Rig visit to Vishakhapatnam.
x Formulated a new system of asset management and tracking using barcodes for the supply chain keeping
in view of factors as information redundancy, emergency procurements, user friendliness and future implications.

x The system can easily be upgraded to RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) & simultaneously be linked to the
other company divisions in Singapore and Aberdeen.

2. Project Outline : Extraction of Strontium from nuclear waste by Liquid Emulsion Membrane(LEM) to
enable the safe disposal of Nuclear waste
Organization : Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
x Optimization of recovery of radioactive strontium from a prototype of nuclear waste by way of Liquid Emulsion
Membrane (ELM) technique through 60 laboratory experiments.
x Variation of parameters like concentration of
Crown-ether, surfactants, emulsification time through
experimentation to study their effect on Strontium removal.
x Explored the effect of various physical phenomenon such as interfacial tension and viscosity upon the rate of
removal of strontium.
Achievement :
x The percentage removal varied from 15% to 85%. By using the optimization technique we achieved a percentage
removal in the high range of 71 85 %.
