Some tips on common mistakes, preparating for English, revving up your presentation skills, and more.
I couldn't stress on it more! The board examiner doesn't know you personally and doesn't know what to anticipate from an
answer sheet. The way you present your work plays a major role in determining the impact you make on the examiner.
Good handwriting and neatly written answers easily impress people because their lives become much easier. You might
even get away with a minor mistake. On the other hand, an illegible script, with cutting and overwriting, simply puts off
teachers!
As a rule of thumb, if you can do anything, which will make it easier for the examiner to check your answer sheet, do it. The
first impression gained by a well-presented answer sheet is very helpful. I know people who were good in their subject but
got less marks than expected because of bad presentation. There are cases where the opposite has also taken place.
At the end, I will say that nothing I have said can act as a substitute for preparation and practice. All these factors come
into play once you have prepared well. No matter how well you garnish a dish, it wouldn't impress anyone if it didn't taste
good.
After proper guidance and streamlined preparation, anyone can come out with flying colours.
ENGLISH
A subject like ENGLISH may seem tough to many because of the relatively high subjectivity in its evaluation. All in all, I
feel that two things form the basic foundation for this subject : overall knowledge and proficiency in English, and interest
in the subject.
In the Literature section, go through entire stories, essays, and poems well. Don't just read them like you would a story, but
delve deeper into the meanings. Analyse the characters and form opinions about them.
While answering questions, a judicious mix of quoting from the book and using your own expressions, is a must. If you quote
too much, this may give the impression that you have just memorised the book without actually understanding, and if you
write completely using your own expressions, it may convey the message that you haven't actually read the text and are just
writing randomly. The best balance is quoting from the book and explaining in your own words.
When it comes to the Writing Skills section, put your creativity to good use. Try to include as many points as you can fit in,
gracefully, within the word limit. Take care to adhere to the specific formats.
As far as giving how much time needs to be spent, it will change from person to person. But, as a general rule, you shouldn't
leave any subject for the last two months or so. How much time you spend also depends on your own comfort level with the
subject, and you can schedule your work so that you spend more time with subjects you find tough.
Any subject, no matter how easy it seems, needs you to put in some effort. And with one month left for the exam, and five
subjects to revise, you will find it hard to do justice to it. The preferences might change, but you should try not to leave out a
subject completely.
Finally, it's best if you inculcate reading habits and try to improve your proficiency in English. Not only will it help you get
a good score, it will take you a long way in your career.
To excel, it takes nothing more than systematic preparation, consistent hard work and the proper environment at home and
school. You don't need to completely sacrifice your interests nor is there any need to devote all your time to studies.
What to do night before the exam:The night before the exam is very crucial for your exam and your performance is pretty much dependent upon that. You must
not cram before the exam to follow. You should infact just take a review of each topic you feel important or less confident.
Never think of cramming too much before the exam, as it will mix your topics and also make you feel low in confidence for
the exams.
You should sleep as soon as possible, to make your brain as well as body to relax a bit and to be well prepared for the
exams-- as our brain too needs a rest to be fresh and to remember well for the exam.
Time Before the exam:Never try to read anything or to study or cram just before the exam time even if your friends ask you for a topic he/she has
missed or left during preparation of exams. Close your book 1 hour before the exam starts and feel relaxed and worry free
and full of self confidence before the exam.
Also get up early in the morning and take another review of the important topics and fill yourself with confidence as
confidence is the main key to score well.
During Exam time:Checkout all your things you require during exam time i.e.., Pen, Pencil, sketch Pens, rubber, sharpener, scale. Each and
everything whether it is small or big matters a lot during your exam time.
Read all the instructions carefully before giving the exam and keep that in your mind during exam time. Don t make any
foolish mistakes regarding your exam paper Instructions.
Time management is important:Read out all the questions carefully before writing anything on the answer sheet. Always start your answering from questions
which will carry maximum marks as well as which you think are tougher, need much time to think before. When you start
your exam from small questions you will always feel the tension of questions left.
So, thats why Time management is very much important during exams. You can write small questions even in the last 30
mins but you will never be able to write enough for the large questions in the last moments which eventually results in
sadness.
When you feel Stuck during Exam:There might be moments in your exam time, when you feel stuck with some questions or a single question. At such moments,
you just need to be relaxed and calm. Dont panic in that situation, bring back your confidence and try to think that answer
with a cool mind.
If you are not feeling like giving that answer then make some sign or encircle that question with a pen and move on to the
next question. Try doing that question after you finish doing all other questions in your exam and you are still left with time.
Never try to think about that question when you are writing an answer to any other question, as this will reduce your
concentration. When you feel no way out, just make a guess and attempt that question -- this will leave you with something in
that space you left for that question.
Answer sheet should be neat & clean:Handwriting matters a lot for good or highest marks during your exam -- as your writing makes the first impression on the
checkers mind. So, make your answer sheet glow for the examiner or checker of the answer sheet.
Underline those words or lines you feel are important and want to attract the examiner's attention to, so that he/she is able to
make the right judgement about your answer and also rewards you the full or maximum marks.
After Completion Of exam paper:When you complete your exam paper or question paper -- dont run out of the examination hall. Sit there and review each
and every answer before depositing it to the invigilator. Also, look for the questions you left while answering or in which you
got stuck.
Search for the mistakes you have done during writing. Tune-in towards the hardest question or that one which made you feel
uncomfortable while answering it and review that well. Look for errors and add any other important lines you missed to
answer in that.
