INTRODUCTION
Tools are such a common part of our lives that it is difficult to remember that they may pose
hazards. Tragically, a serious incident can occur before steps are taken to identify and avoid
or eliminate tool-related hazards. Employees who use hand and power tools and are exposed
to the hazards of falling, flying, abrasive, and splashing objects, or to harmful dusts, fumes,
mists, vapors, or gases must be provided with the appropriate personal protective equipment.
All electrical connections for these tools must be suitable for the type of tool and the working
conditions (wet, dusty, flammable vapors). When a temporary power source is used for
construction a ground-fault circuit interrupter should be used.

OBJECTIVE
Describe general guidelines for hand and power tool safety.
Describe important hand and power tool basics.
Identify personal protective equipment for using hand and power tools.

GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR

POWER TOOLS
Be aware of all power lines and electrical circuits, water pipes, and other mechanical hazards in your work
area, particularly those below the work surface, hidden from the operator's view, that may be contacted.
Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, dangling objects or jewelry. Long hair must be
restrained. Gloves should not be worn when operating certain power tools. Check appropriate tool
manuals.

POWER TOOLS PRECAUTIONS

Disconnect tools when not in use, before servicing and

cleaning, and when changing accessories

Keep people not involved with the work away

from the work

Secure work with clamps or a vise, freeing both

hands to operate the tool

Dont hold the switch button while carrying a plugged-in tool

Keep tools sharp and clean

CONCLUSION
There are many potential can be raised when using tools, wether it is risks that can be harmful
or good for our welfare. The Personal Protective Equipemnt (PPE) must be equipped in order
to lower down the hazards risks. We must make maintenance on the tools at least 1 time per
week, this need to be done to check if the tool is in good condition or not. We also can avoid
hazards if we do this regularly. Employee must report to the employer if there are some tools
that cannot be used. Doing this is better than using broken tools because the hazards risks is
more higher like broken wire, rusty equipment etc. Do follow the rules on the sites or manual
instruction on the tools.
